Editorial Reviews

Review

“I like the order in which the topics are presented. The order is the same way that I would choose if I were writing a text myself.”

        - Kathleen Denson, Texas A&M Commerce

“Aron et al. strives to make statistical concepts accessible to students who may not have a background or interests in math.”

        - Brock Kirwan, Brigham Young University

“This text is at a level that I would feel comfortable assigning to my intro stats students.”

        - Osvaldo Morera, University of Texas at El Paso

“I like that [the text] introduced students to more complex techniques in an effort to help them to understand the articles that they are reading with more complex statistics in them”

-Stacey Williams, East Tennessee State University

“.The Level of writing is it’s strongest assets. Very clear step by step instructions. The level of writing is very appropriate to my students”

          -Stephen Armeli, Farleigh Dickinson

“High-level, clear, comprehensive. The book is effective at helping students understand the material”

        - Kristin Lane, Bard College

Great book for those in Psych stats!
Fantom
All of the other comments about the errors are true, but I have something else to add: the syntax and examples.
David G. Leitnick
Furthermore, it was an extremely unrigorous treatment, with many redundant examples and filler text.

I found this book greatly supportive to a non-statistically minded person such as myself. The authors realise that not everyone feels comfortable with doing statistics and, indeed, actually dread it. Since I need to do a Statistics for Psychology course to continue in Psychology it has been a relief that the main text used has been written to aid the statistically impaired. It is fulled with many mind-easing comments etc. and, with the combination of this book and my lecturer at the University of Canterbury, I am actually learning to enjoy something I never thought I would enjoy. A big thank you to Arthur and Elaine Aron. You have helped me continue my studies in the field I wish to remain in - Psychology.

I used Edition 2 of this book during my undergraduate education and, at the time, it seemed fine. I am in a graduate program and we are using the 6th edition and it is SO MUCH BETTER! I have compared them side-by-side and the improvement has been remarkable. Not that I have no complaints, mind you, but it's a solid book for psychology statistics.

I've never come across a textbook with so many mathematical and typographical errors! It was absolutely infuriating! We could never trust what the book gave as a solution to an exercise.

If the authors would fix these errors it would be a decent text.

This is a good introduction book for stats if you want to know the basics. I used the book for a stats class and it worth it.

I was amazed w/how clearly this book explained concepts (as compared with other books/professors). The book also explains the concepts in different ways/perspectives, so that if you don't understand one explanation you're likely to understand the others. The book also has a perfect range of material--complete coverage of Z-scores, t-tests, regression, and ANOVAs; all the way thru concepts like MANOVA/MANCOVA, and multiple regression. Also at the end includes a couple great chapters which give very simple explanations of more complex procedures such as structural equation modeling, causal modeling, factor analysis, etc. By far the best stats book I've read.

This statistics book got me through the muddiness that was my Statistics lectures. When you can't understand the words coming out of your professor's mouth, dive into this book for clarification. It's strategic, using efficient stages to set up your knowledge base for the next piece of statistical information. I'd never taken a statistics class before, and I can't claim to be brilliant at math, but this book helped me pass my class with an "A". (So did my TA tutor, god bless him.)
