Book Description

0470392223 978-0470392225 September 28, 2009 9
Drawing upon over 40 years of experience, the authors of this highly accessible book provide business professionals with a clear and methodical approach to essential statistical procedures. The ninth edition clearly explains the basic concepts and procedures of descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. It features a new emphasis on expressions involving sums of squares and degrees of freedom as well as a stronger stress on the importance of variability. This accessible approach will help business professionals tackle such perennially mystifying topics as the standard deviation, variance interpretation of the correlation coefficient, hypothesis tests, degrees of freedom, p-values, and estimates of effect size.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad edition of a useful book..., December 28, 2006
This review is from: Statistics (Hardcover)
If you are an instructor avoid this book. I have used older editions of this book because they have been easy for students to understand. With the eighth edition I have had to pass out lists of corrections and mistakes in the book. They are nothing major, but often confuse students.

5.0 out of 5 stars User Friendly, September 7, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Statistics (Textbook Binding)
The chapters are very easy to read and understand. Each chapter includes exercises to do after each new concept is explained. Most answers to the exercises are included in the back of the book. The step-by-step instructions make concepts and exercises user friendly. A great Stats book.

4.0 out of 5 stars very pleased, January 5, 2008
By
This review is from: Statistics (Hardcover)
This textbook was selected for me to use in teaching statistics to undergraduates. I've just finished reading it and I am, on the whole, very pleased. It is much easier to understand than any of the statistics texts I used in upper division courses or graduate school. It is straight forward and concise yet has a fairly conversational style. The only downside is the need for text corrections (about ½ a page worth) but these are available from the book's companion website and can be handed out the first day of class to avoid student frustration.
