Book Description

Popular in previous editions, this Third Edition continues to help build students' confidence and ability in doing statistical analysis by slowly moving from concepts that require little computational work to those that require more. Author R. Mark Sirkin once again demonstrates how statistics can be used so that students come to appreciate their usefulness rather than fear them. Statistics for the Social Sciences emphasizes the analysis and interpretation of data to give students a feel for how data interpretation is related to the methods by which the information was obtained.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book ensures first that the process is understood and second that the role of the computer is integrated into analysis by using computer printouts for students to work with. . . It is valuable. I recommend it to my students and use it as a reference text myself."

(Christine Howard Evaluation and Research in Education )

"The exercises are excellent. I think the use of real examples gives relevancy and meaning to the concepts."

(Holly S. Gimpel )

"The author takes great effort to walk students through concepts with both discussion and illustration."

(Steve Seitz )

"The author’s clear, concise writing style is one of the strengths of the book. He does a very good job of breaking down complex ideas into their simpler components and presenting the information to the reader."

(Jerome McKean ) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive textbook, April 29, 2007
This review is from: Statistics for the Social Sciences (Paperback)
This is a comprehensive book covering all the major topics that a student would need for the statistics modules in various social science courses. Managers need to have an understanding of statistics so that they are able to manipulate the numerous masses of data that come their way into meaningful and useful information that they can employ in making decisions in organisations.

The author presented the material in the book in a clear and in-depth manner, making it suitable for social science students studying statistics or carrying out research required statistical manipulations. The author also provided several examples and exercises that should assist the reader in consolidating his/her understanding of the concepts described in the book.

Most managers are consumers rather than producers of statistical information. This book equips you with the expertise to enable you to be an informed consumer who knows the right questions to ask and the kind of information to request from those who produce the statistical information in the organization.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The author and the title of the book is what I want. But the cover of the book is different from the picture of amazon showed me when I placed the order and thus is different from the one my teacher asked. So I think the edition I got is not what I ordered.
