I am trying very hard to like Staub as much as Le Creuset. I have ordered many Staub products and almost all have been exchanged because they broke or were poorly constructed. Amazon is always amazing at making sure I am satisfied, but Staub really needs to step up their QC. When I received this 5 3/4 qt Grenadine Cocotte I was blown away at how nice it looked. Really a stunning piece. I looked over every square inch to make sure it was in perfect condition. Sadly, there was a chip in the lid which penetrated the enamel and caused the lid to rust.

I feel it cooks as well, if not a little better than my round Le Creuset French oven. The thicker layer of iron never burns anything and creates a nice fond. The lid, though heavier than the Le Creuset's, was not a better sealing lid.

I promptly received a free replacement from Amazon (+ a $10 gift card!), but the replacement piece was an absolute travesty. I have no idea how it even left Staub's factory. There were large nubs on the lid from the sand mold that made the lid impossible to close; the cast iron was not evenly thick all around; the enamel had holes/pits in it, the color was neither rich nor vibrant. It looked terrible. I was so disappointed. I will try again and hope third time is a charm.

I would recommend Staub to others, but it is very important to buy from a company like Amazon. You are really rolling the dice with a Staub piece, but I think the cookware is worth the gamble.

The thing about this Staub cookware that you might like best is no matter what you paid for it, you won't be disappointed-because in the end it works to perfection and looks beautiful. Being a fairly habitual bargain hunter I am always looking to save on what I buy. These coq au vin/dutch oven/french oven pieces that I cook with work so well that even if I didn't get the perfect bargain, I know that they are worth what I paid for them each time I make something with them. Easy and the food flavors are enhanced in the process. Try one. Get a roast, throw in some veggies and your favorite seasonings, put it in the oven or on the stovetop, turn it on low...a couple hours later you have some good grub. Cleans up almost like nonstick without having to worry about eating the nonstick at some time. I like the beauty of these in the kitchen, too. The colors are not overwhelming, just cheery and are in graduated shades-a nice added touch to cast iron oven perfection. I like the 5-litre size for my personal small family use. You will love using these ovens-I still talk to my rooster. So, read about all the options, find a great bargain... get one, season it ... and USE IT- a lot. My highest recommendation goes for Staub.

The price meant I asked myself over and over if this was something I really NEEDED, or if I wanted to drop so much money on a pan when I had a perfectly serviceable aluminum roaster, but I did. And I'm SO glad I did. It's been a couple years and it just keeps getting better. I'll use this thing the rest of my life. If you're on the fence about this, treat yourself. This is seriously one of the nicest pieces of kitchen equipment I have ever used. It's hauled out at least once a week for roast chicken, short ribs, braised pork belly, tagines- anything you can think of.

I first layed eyes on this pot one day while shopping at the mall but the price is beyond what I would usually spend on myself so I kept on walking. Flash forward a few months and for my birthday my husband gives me the Le Creuset 6 3/4qt cast iron/enamel French cooker and I gushed and cooed buuuut I knew I had to return it for the Staub I first fell in love with. It is beautiful and I just loved the rooster handel but of course that's not reason enough alone to buy the Staub. After much research on line I knew it was the right purchase after reading again and again that people who had both the Le Creuset and the Staub prefered the Staub and I can see why. I had been using my Caphelon dutch oven for years to braise a roast, the Staub wins hands down. Best roast beef, vegetables and gravy I've ever made and so easy! Went great from my glass stovetop (do use care when using it on glass stoves)to the oven and washed right up with just a little soap and water. So far so good and I look forward to years of delicious home cooked meals and who knows, maybe someday I'll pass it on to one of my kids, I'm sure it will look as good then as it does now.

I absolutely love this pot! Not only is it beautiful it cooks evenly, browns food wonderfully and leaves a nice fond in the bottom of the pan. A bargain for the serious cook, or those that just want a superior pot for braising, roasting and stewing.

I admit it. I bought this pot because of the handle that looks like a chicken. It's going to see a lot of use alongside my well-seasoned 5-qt Lodge, which is also wonderful, but not suited to acidic ingredients.

It arrived securely packed by Amazon, without a scratch or chip.

Color: Royal Blue Verified Purchase
I purchased the 6 quart Coq Au Vin Cocotte in royal blue just before Christmas this year and I have used it every day since. I absolutely love it and am only sorry that I didn't purchase it years ago. It is a dream to use. I have used it on top of the stove as well as in the oven and everything comes out simply perfect and delicious. I had a holiday luncheon yesterday and made and served asaparagus soup in it and both the soup and the pot were a huge hit. If you have been thinking about purchasing a Staub French Oven, don't wait as long as I did, just do it while they are a good price and enjoy it. My only advise is to leave it right near the stove and use it frequently for frying bacon, making soups, sauces, braising and roasting meat, as it will only get better with time and use. Bon Appetit!
