5.0 out of 5 stars Love this pot. Staub gets better the more you cook in it., March 14, 2009
This review is from: Staub 6Quart Coq Au Vin, Black Matte (Kitchen)
The thing about this Staub cookware that you might like best is no matter what you paid for it, you won't be disappointed-because in the end it works to perfection and looks beautiful. Being a fairly habitual bargain hunter I am always looking to save on what I buy. These coq au vin/dutch oven/french oven pieces that I cook with work so well that even if I didn't get the perfect bargain, I know that they are worth what I paid for them each time I make something with them. Easy and the food flavors are enhanced in the process. Try one. Get a roast, throw in some veggies and your favorite seasonings, put it in the oven or on the stovetop, turn it on low...a couple hours later you have some good grub. Cleans up almost like nonstick without having to worry about eating the nonstick at some time. I like the beauty of these in the kitchen, too. The colors are not overwhelming, just cheery and are in graduated shades-a nice added touch to cast iron oven perfection. I like the 5-litre size for my personal small family use. You will love using these ovens-I still talk to my rooster. So, read about all the options, find a great bargain... get one, season it ... and USE IT- a lot. My highest recommendation goes for Staub.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful - If You Get One That Is Well Built..., November 30, 2009

I am trying very hard to like Staub as much as Le Creuset. I have ordered many Staub products and almost all have been exchanged because they broke or were poorly constructed. Amazon is always amazing at making sure I am satisfied, but Staub really needs to step up their QC. When I received this 5 3/4 qt Grenadine Cocotte I was blown away at how nice it looked. Really a stunning piece. I looked over every square inch to make sure it was in perfect condition. Sadly, there was a chip in the lid which penetrated the enamel and caused the lid to rust.

I feel it cooks as well, if not a little better than my round Le Creuset French oven. The thicker layer of iron never burns anything and creates a nice fond. The lid, though heavier than the Le Creuset's, was not a better sealing lid.

I promptly received a free replacement from Amazon (+ a $10 gift card!), but the replacement piece was an absolute travesty. I have no idea how it even left Staub's factory. There were large nubs on the lid from the sand mold that made the lid impossible to close; the cast iron was not evenly thick all around; the enamel had holes/pits in it, the color was neither rich nor vibrant. It looked terrible. I was so disappointed. I will try again and hope third time is a charm.

I would recommend Staub to others, but it is very important to buy from a company like Amazon. You are really rolling the dice with a Staub piece, but I think the cookware is worth the gamble.

5.0 out of 5 stars my favorite pot, April 28, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My Le Crueset 7 1/2 quart dutch oven used to be my favorite pot but not anymore. If you haven't tried a Staub pot you need to. The grenadine color is gorgeous. The pot does an amazing job of searing but not burning. With the lid on in the oven it retains heat better than my Le Creuset. The lid is so beautiful that I keep it out on a plate stand in my kitchen for decoration. My only regret is that I didn't get the same pot only larger.
