I purchased this item a while ago and have made mussels in it several times. Each time my results were excellent and I really made an impression on my dinner guests by serving the mussels straight in the pot and using the lid for the shells. My guests and I loved how easily you could lean the pot to its side thanks to the rounded bottom edge and how the metal grid allowed the liquid to flow freely minus the shells or the other cooking ingredients so that we could dip our bread right into it. You can easily fit 4 pounds of mussels into this pot, enough for 4 people. I cook them with the metal grid out and then insert it back once everything is ready to serve. The metal is really chip and corrosion resistant. Makes a great center piece on the table and everyone will have a lot of fun and a great meal.

We eat mussels all the time. We were looking for a way to cook and serve in the same pot. I saw Jacque Pepin use this and loved the design. We cooked our first batch of mussels in it and it works wonderfully. The cast iron is heavy enough to handle the heat and the size holds a complete bag of mussels. We put a pot holder on the table and set the pot on top. We used the lid to hold the shells until it filled up. Since you cook and serve in the same vessel, there isn't a chance to stir up the grit from the mussels that comes out during cooking. The broth was clear and clean. I see us using this pot for more than just seafood.
