5.0 out of 5 stars Don't take my word for it, Elvis Costello picked these tracks, March 30, 2008

I had never owned a BT&MG album before and didn't know their songs beyond Green Onions and Time is Tight. There are several greatest hits and compilations to choose from, and I read the reviews for all of them before choosing this one. It's a great collection, and the extensive liner notes by Elvis Costello who picked the tracks made me listen even closer to appreciate the musicality of some of the songs I had never heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars How can anyone say anything BAD about this band? Great disc too., December 6, 2007
This review is from: Stax Profiles (Audio CD)
Fantastic disc, compiled by...Elvis Costello? What gives? It's okay, thankfully he picks a real cream of the crop disc here. This is the perfect companion for me to the Best Of on Atlantic.

Booker T. and the MG's -- can they really do any wrong? Okay, I just saw they put out a Christmas album, but let's put that aside for them; they deserve some RESPECT!!

(for anybody who has seen Otis Redding at Monterey, try and tell me that Donald "Duck" Dunn isn't the GREATEST bass player of ALL TIME!)

The house band on Stax, they were more than a backing band--in John Fogerty's estimate, they were the greatest band of all time. I don't think I'd go THAT far, but they were SUPOIB!

Stuuf on here that isn't on my comp of earlier material includes the fantastic Time Is Tight, Burnt Biscuits,Hang 'Em High, and a couple other true essentials (which I notice ain't on their double CD set "The Definitive Soul Collection") are Sunday Sermon and Fuquawi. Man DIG that slow, Coooool groove on Sunday Sermon. How mellow-beautiful can you GET? Ooch, that feels GOOOOD. So good. MM-MMMM!! Talk about relaxing mellow groove! This beats Hip Hug-Her hands down (which is on here for all you fellow Barfly fans), and even may be more relaxing than their version of Summertime, hoo-boy!

Fuquawi is one great track that -- I remember once reading some celebrity chick saying that Booker T.'s Hip Hug-Her made her horny; well, what would she do to this, if this came on?! Man!

A Booker T. 'best of' can never be bad (unless the sound quality is an issue; it sure as hell ain't here!)

Elvis Costclello did an excellent job picking tracks on this one.

Highly recommended. Fantastic.
