Book Description

March 1996
This fourth book in the popular Code of the West series follows deputy sheriff Tap Andrews and his new wife, Pepper, who must contend with bad guys and lawless crowds after legendary marshal Pappy Divide is shot and killed. How long will the newlyweds have to be involved in law enforcement? Long enough, it seems, to grow in their understanding of how God works in their lives.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Having lost their ranch in Colorado to creditors, cow rustler Tap Andrews and his new wife, Pepper Paige, settle in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Tap works as a deputy marshal but is soon elevated to acting marshal when the marshal is killed. Tap has his hands full trying to bring law and order to a frontier town peopled with corrupt politicians, hungry gold seekers, and angry cattle drivers. While Tap brings integrity and righteousness to his job, he also brings a quick temper that often lands him in trouble. Tap's frequent references to God and his spiritual life are sometimes out of character and hard to believe, but, otherwise, Bly (Where the Deer and the Antelope Play, LJ 9/1/95) offers a kinder, gentler Western that should appeal to fans of Louis L'Amour. Recommended where Bly's books are popular.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellant western, November 1, 1999

This review is from: Stay Away From That City...They Call it Cheyenne (Code of the West, Book 4) (Paperback)
I have loved all the books about Tap and Pepper. I am exceptionally grateful that Mr. Bly did not leave them at the altar. A person could be forgiven believing in the Cinderella syndrome the way most authors leave their characters. Mr. Bly does an excellant portrait of women. It is the rare male author I read that does women well. Of the Western authors I have read, I have to go back to Zane Grey to get a satisfying heroine. Usually I want the shake the heroine or the author, but Pepper comes across as a brave, level-headed woman, in keeping with the times. I look forward to the next series.
