Dance Forever with this One,
By Ristobee (South of LAX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stay Free (Audio CD)
It's difficult to choose which of Ashford and Simpson's albums is my favorite - but this one has two of my all time favorite songs from A&S, "Nobody Knows" (pounding rythm, lush arrangement) and "Finally Got to Me" (fun, upbeat lyrics and instrumentals). The dance hit "Found A Cure" is here in all it's glory, and the beat continues through "Stay Free" (great lyrics) and "Dance Forever". The two ballads "Follow Your Heart" (excellent vocals) and "Crazy" (delightful arrangement) are thouroughly enjoyable. I played the album repeatedly when it was first released and am very happy to have this collection sounding even better on CD.

Sorry, Stuart,

I bought this album in Chicago from a cut-out bin at Rose Records in 1983, already owning the 45 for "Found a Cure." That was one of the greatest purchases I ever made. I simple played this album to death, driving my college roommate absolutely bananas (sorry, Stuart). "Stay Free" is one of the most beautiful and meaningful songs in my vast collection, and reminds me so much of a college colleague who later died in a tragic accident. "Nobody Knows" also has memories of growing up in a farm town trying to pull in urban radio stations and catching this incredible song one day in 1979. The extended version of "Found a Cure" is incredible, STILL often running through my head so, so many years later. After starting with this one, I own all Ashford & Simpson. Please don't miss this one.

This album should be retitled "Forever Memories",

I am an avid fan of Ashford & Simpson. I rated this album 5 stars, because it brought back some very fond memories especially back in the day in 1979. I met my first real love when I was listening to this one particular cut "Crazy" and everytime I hear that song, I sit back and privately reminisce about that "special one". We had the most beautiful relationship and "Crazy" was our private song we danced to. I think that every Ashford & Simpson fan should have this album in their collection, because their collection is INCOMPLETE without it!

One Of The Best,
By Kathy (Pennsauken, New Jersey United States) - See all my reviews

This is probably one of Ashford and Simpson's best albums, which means it's outstanding. Six of the seven songs are great. "Follow Your Heart" is a very pretty song, but it's a little too slow. "Nobody Knows" combines a great beat with meaningful lyrics. Any Ashford and Simpson album would be great to have, but don't miss this one!

Classic A&S,

This is one of the two best Ashford and Simpson albums available on CD. It was released at the height of the disco years, and contains the dance classic "Found A Cure," but it is so much more than a disco album. The lyrics of each song are about something substantial and meaningful, the arrangements are superb, the melodies, chord progressions, and harmonies are inspiring, and the vocals are robust. "Stay Free" has resonated with many people and was an underground dance club favorite (The Loft). "Nobody Knows" extends the theme of the title track, while redemption is found in the songs "Dance Forever" (which showcases in the opening Valerie Simpson's lovely voice at its best) and "Follow Your Heart," a song that put into words my evolving spiritual beliefs when I first heard it in 1979. This is not only one of Ashford and Simpson's best albums, it is one of the best popular music albums bar none.
