3.0 out of 5 stars Some Rock n Roll...not as much as expected.
I expected more rock n roll; especially because this CD includes the song "take my life" with those raw vocals. I find myself forwarding through half the songs, which is disappointing. (It may help you to know that I am a Third Day fan.) I did listen to the song previews before making a purchase. Most of the time songs you are not familiar will grow on you. This...

This album is truly anointed. I bought the album after hearing just one track. I don't remember the last time I heard music that inspired me to such a degree as this. The main thing that stands out to me is that this man knows the Lord, Jesus Christ. He's not just singing about something he learned, he's singing to God Himself. I play this cd constantly, especially when I have time alone with the Lord. These songs bring forth declarations I couldn't express before. I know Jeremy's been through so much; losing his wife last year, putting an album together, life as a believer. There are several amazing tracks on this album.

1)Understand--Just basically telling God that he sees God's hand over his life.

2)Right Here--Jeremy recognizes God's presence through even the hardest times.

3)Walk by Faith--Every man has to make a decision to walk by faith.

4)Stay--Exhortation to someone who is being pulled away from the light of Christ.

6)I Still Believe--My favorite song! I could listen to this song all day.

7)One day at a time--There's only way to walk life's road; one day at a time!

8)Breaking My Fall--Second-favorite track. Powerful message. Jeremy recalls seeing God break his fall. The chorus ends with..."what am I supposed to do?" I wonder the same thing. How do we show our amazing God how greatful we are?

10)I know you're calling--Perfect song for someone who knows that God is calling them.

11)Take my Life--This song is a bit more Rock than the rest, but has an amazing chorus. Some things were meant to be shouted, not just said: "Take my life, take my mind, take my soul, take my will, cus' I am yours Lord, I give it all to you."

12)In Your Presence--Just hit "replay" on this track and let the Presence of God consume you.

This album is a must-have for EVERY believer and a great gift for non-believers.

Jeremy, if you read this, I love you in the Lord! Stay blessed, and don't ever compromise. In Christ, Joel.

Don't ever doubt in the dark what God's shown you in the light.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest and Angry, August 11, 2003
This review is from: Stay (Audio CD)
Okay, most people don't start out a review of a worship CD with the word "angry" and call that a good thing. But in this case, when you combine it with "honest," I think it's the highest praise you can give an artist. Like David (who wrote many Psalms, some of them angry), Jeremy Camp doesn't shy away from expressing his anger to God. And not just in his lyrics, but in the passion of his songs (some of which, such as "One Day at a Time" and "Take My Life," reminded me of nothing so much as the recent Daredevil soundtrack -- and that's a positive association).

But he is not always angry. I discovered his music in a very difficult patch of my life, and his faith is remarkable, convicting and inspiring to me. Not only that, it is musically superb.

This CD leaves nothing to be desired (so I hope he can top it on his next outing! ;-) ). Sometimes, I just need loud music, and this guy's got it down. The "hard rock" songs are Stay (4), One Day at a Time (7), and -- my favorite -- Take My Life (11). The latter has lyrics that are as loud and passionate as an emotionally strained Christian could hope for, and yet the message is overwhelmingly positive. These songs feature driving guitar and incredible rhythms. Backing it down, Understand (1) and All the Time (5) are up-tempo but not quite as loud, while the mid-tempo comes in as Right Here (2), Nothing (9), and Walk by Faith (3), which borders on slow.

But his slow songs are as musically rich as his fast ones, and the most beautifully orchestrated and most remarkably faith-filled is I Still Believe (6). My boyfriend heard it on the radio and introduced me to Jeremy Camp, and honestly, it's not my favorite song on the album because I like Camp's fast songs so much. But the lyrics of this song are simply amazing, and the circumstances surrounding his writing make them even more so. He really knows what it means to follow God through difficult situations, especially the death of his first (then only) wife due to cancer after less than a year of marriage.

In short, if you like rock music, ballads, and amazing lyrics, you couldn't spend better money this year than to buy this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm biased, but this album is terrific!, November 5, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Stay (Audio CD)
I'll admit straight off that I'm biased; Jeremy Camp was my next-door neighbour and a good friend when we were kids. I'm simultaneously proud and jealous of him, to see his career take off like this. God has really touched Jeremy with the gift of musical evangelism, and He is doing great things through Jeremy.

Now on to the critical review part! In my opinion the three best songs on this CD are "Walk by Faith," "I Still Believe," and "One Day at a Time." "Walk by Faith" is one of my personal favourites from his independent release, and it's a simple statement that our life can only be lived through faith. "I Still Believe" actually made me a little teary, because this song was written when Jeremy was facing his wife's death. "One Day at a Time" is a fantastic, guitar-driven song about taking life as it comes.

The rest of the album is great, too. "Take My Life" in particular is a great song, very guitar-driven. The lyrics are all uncompromising in their devotion to and reliance upon God. Musically speaking, Jeremy's guitar skills are excellent, and the album has a lot of energy. There are a couple of songs where the sound is slightly reminiscent of Creed. His voice is powerful and strong, and he uses it well to convey the feeling behind his lyrics.

All in all, an excellent CD, and one that no Christian or fan of modern rock should be without!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars Isn't Enough, January 20, 2004

This review is from: Stay (Audio CD)
If you hear Jeremy Camp's story, you automatically start to like him. Widowed at age 21, this 24 year old writes and sings through his heart, inspired by his previous tragedies. You would think his songs would be full of anger and questioning God on what has happened in his life. But when you here his deep, soothing, gorgeous voice, chills go up your spine and the lyrics make you want to worship the Lord. Jeremy's lyrics aren't angry, instead they are thankful for what he has been given. In the song "I Still Believe," the gem of this album, he writes about his wife and how she will continue to give her testimony here on earth. This album is absolutely amazing and within one listening, Jeremy quickly became my favorite single artist of all time. The album has just the right amount of fast and slow songs, and all of them are full of inspiration. This is one of the few albums I can listen to straight through with absolutely no skipping of any songs. They all still continue to give me chills. Whether its his voice, the lyrics, or the deep love of Christ that shines through every word of every song, I don't know. Whatever it is, though, it makes Jeremy the newcomer that is definately going to make it big in the music industry. I have had this album for a year and it has yet to grow old, like many albums do after continuous listening. You will not be disappointed by this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can you say AWESOME?, May 29, 2003

This review is from: Stay (Audio CD)
this cd stays in my player day and night! what a wonderful demonstration of giving your life and talent to the Father! jeremy camp's words and music have inspired me to love the Lord despite the "suffering" i go through. i was at his concert at azusa pacific university when i first heard his testimony. his newlywed wife dies of cancer yet he stands up in obedience to God and worships. as his wife dies??? that was conviction for my heart! this cd is God-inspired. it breathes Jesus. it shouts to the Lord. it is absolutely wonderful. i recommend this album to believers and non-believers. my favorite track is "i still believe," which jeremy wrote after his wife's death. wow. you have to check that song out. it will melt your heart and take you to a new level of understanding of the love of the Father. "even when i cannot see" the love of the Savior shines bright and knowing that He is there is enough. wow. and the last track, "god's presence," is a worship song for the ages. i can listen to that song over and over and over and over again!!
this album is AWESOME!! check it out and then pass it on.
god bless.
your sister in christ,
valarie

4.0 out of 5 stars Jeremy Camp's CD will "Stay" in your CD player, April 28, 2003

Jeremy Camp - "Stay"

Have you seen "A Walk to Remember"? Jeremy Camp could have written that story. The woman he was in love with was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and was undergoing treatment in the hospital. Five months later, as her hair was growing back and she was feeling better, Jeremy decided, after much fasting and prayer, that he was going to ask her to marry him. They married and on their honeymoon she began to suffer from terrible stomach pain and later received news from the doctors that she had only a few months to live. As she lay dying and taking her last breathe, Jeremy and her family stood and worshipped God with songs he had played for her during her hospital stays. Camp said "I didn't want to do it, but I knew I was learning something about obedience."

"I Still Believe" is the song he wrote in response to that experience in his life, of watching his young, beautiful bride die, yet still keeping his faith in the Lord through all his pain. He also wrote the song "Walk by Faith" which is included on the album during his honeymoon. It somewhat foreshadowed the faith he was going to need to draw upon in his near future:

"I will walk by faith
Even when I can not see
Because this broken road
Prepares Your will for me"

The CD is filled with wonderful balladry and all out rock anthems like "Stay" and "Take My Life" in which Jeremy heartily pleads, in this song of submission, for God to take his life. Camp is singing about giving over his life, his soul, his will and his entire being, entrusting it all to God.

Camp's voice is a deep tenor and strong. It commands attention and the listener is immediately taken in from the moment one hears it on the first track "Understand". Leading off the album, and as the first single released for CCM airplay, "Understand" is a rock song with an uptempo beat and melodic guitars that leave the listener wanting more.

This is a straight-out rock CD that includes some beautiful ballads with heartfelt lyrics that demonstrate the love Camp has for his savior. Each song is God-breathed and has its own flavor, yet they all flow together well on this album to create a collection of prayers, poetry and life observations. The music that carries all these words is just as interesting and holds ones attention with creative melodies and purposeful guitar-driven rhythms and drumming.

This is an awesome debut from Camp and if this CD is any indication of what is to come from this young man, then start saving now because his catalogue will definitely grow. He is a talented songwriter and his talent will only be honed as he gains even more life experience. I recommend this CD to those who enjoy the balladry of a Steven Curtis Chapman or Michael W. Smith as well as the rock n' roll of DC Talk, Audio Adrenaline or Kutless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rockin' Praise To The King! Buy This CD Without Delay! 10 Stars!, August 16, 2005
This review is from: Stay (Audio CD)
Jeremy Camp's Stay is an absolute HIT! This is his best work to date. The music and the lyrics are superb. I highly recommend Christian music fans purchase this CD. We need to support artist who put their heart and soul into their creation. Jeremy Camp has done this!

#1. Understand - A song about our doubts and God's promise to understand what were are going through. This song really shows why Jeremy Camp is making music for a living - he knows how to combine music with amazing lyrics. This song is better than 90% of the stuff the secular music industry is popping out!

#2. Right Here - This song slows things down, but just a little. This song addresses the need for us to realize God is always by our side. He is indeed, right here. This song is a great follow-up to UNDERSTAND, the first track.

#3. Walk By Faith - A unique song, one that is hard to explain, at least as far as the instruments are concerned. But on the lyric side, this is a song about how we all must learn to walk by faith even when times become extremely difficult. We need to trust in our Holy Father's ability to see when we can't.

#4. Stay - Wow! If you listen to Christian radio, you've heard Jeremy Camp's hit song and title of this CD, STAY. This song is so powerful! Camp's ability to belt out hard lyrics, sounding a little bit like CREED or TWELVE STONES, is amazing. The guy's voice is addictive. This CD is worth the price just for this song. This song is about staying in the light and the love of Jesus Christ.

#5. All The Time - Not one of the best songs on the CD, but it still delivers some of the goods Camp offers, and this song makes it clear that God has given us more than we need All The Time.

#6. I Still Believe - Another WOW! I'm only on song number 6 and I would be perfectly happy if these six songs were the only ones on the CD. But guess what? There are six more awesome songs after this one! The listener is drawn to the message of this song - once we believe, how can we ever not? The Savior's loving arms are worthy of many songs. I'm glad this is one of them!

#7. One Day At A Time - A powerful message about trials and tribulations - we can tackle them one day at a time when we are in His hands. A hard-rockin' medley that just tugs at your soul. Only five more tracks to go!

#8. Breaking My Fall - We just can't walk the narrow road on our own. And when we fall, the Savior's hands will be there to lift us up. We cannot rely on our own understanding to make sense of this life. I hope I got it right, Jeremy.

#9. Nothing - There is nothing we can do to make God love us more that He already does. Camp's songs bring a simple message we can never hear too often. This song tells it like it is. Jesus took our place upon that cross! This song is moves around a lot and really shows the softer side of Camp's voice.

#10. I know Your Calling - A song about walking with the Savior. Can anything be more satisfying than spending each day with the Lord, engulfed in His word?

#11. Take My Life - Another WOW! This song is so powerful. It is a hard-rockin' message about our need to lose our life, pick up our crosses and follow the ONE who already gave His life for us. Camp really sends out a LOUD message with this song! Man, this CD is worth every cent!

#12. In Your Presence - Slowing it down a little, Camp offers a great ending song with this song of worship.

My one suggestion to anyone reading this review is that they immediately purchase this CD. This is one of the best CDs in my collection - twelve amazing songs performed by a dedicated musician. May God continue to bless Jeremy Camp and his work!

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS MY FAVORITE CD!! IT ROCKS!, January 4, 2004
By
This review is from: Stay (Audio CD)
Jeremy Camp's music is incredible! Not only is he an artist in every sense of the word, but his message and testimony are amazing as well! Everyone should buy this CD! Here's a review of the songs:(on a scale of 1-10)
1. Undertstand-(8) This song was his first single for obvious reasons!! It is a great upbeat, rock song with an awesome message of God understanding us through the tough times.
2. Right Here-(7)I really like the catchy chrous that this song offers. Also, the massage of God being everywhere has encouraged me a lot!
3. Walk By Faith-(8) This is one of the first songs that he wrote after his young wife died of cancer. That fact alone has the song make a strong statement when listening.
4. Stay-(9) Ah, the title track...this song is especially special to me because I have some friends that have walked from the faith recently. This encourages them to stay in the light of God. Great song!!!
5. All the Time-(5) This is honestly my least favorite song on the album. It just does not measure up to the others lyrically or musically.
6. I Still Believe-(10) This is the reason I got the album. This is my favorite song!! The first song that Jeremy penned after his wife's death. It has spoken to me deeply about believing in God during trials. This song is great!!
7. One Day At a Time-(10) This is another awesome one!! The song starts out slow, but the chorus progresses to become one of the rockiest parts on the album! Another great one!
8. Breaking My Fall-(10)-This is also up there with my favorites!! This song is a little slower, but the message is incredible! ("this narrow road I'm walking/this world will try to draw/Your Word will help me fight it/with You I can face it all/oh, I saw You breaking my fall")
9. Nothing-(9) This song starts out slow but progresses. It is espcially lyrically strong!
10. I Know You're Calling-(9)-This is another great song. It's a little slower, but that does not make it bad!
11. Take My Life-(10)-This is Jeremy's most rockiest song!! He rocks with his pounding vocals and catchy chorus! He always opens up concerts with this one!
12. In Your Presence-(7) It took me a while to like this one. It's really a worshipful song, but all of Jeremy's song are laced with praise for God. He makes no apologies for showing where his heart is!
All in all, this is an incredible masterpiece! A must buy for anyone! I'm looking forward in February for Carried Me: The Worship Project from Jeremy!
