5.0 out of 5 stars Stay Tuned
Loved this book. Opened my eyes to the medium world and made me a believer that perhaps there is something beyond our stay on Earth. Her dialogues with experts in the medium field made me hunt down some of their works and I am eager to attend conferences addressing these issues. I loved her visits to the town Lily Dale in upper New York founded by spiritualists...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not earthshaking
I read the whole book - there was enough to keep me going. As a matter of fact, it could have been my story minus the media and minor celebrity connection. That being said, I don't think that my story is interesting enough to tell and I suspect that the only reason her story got published was because of her celebrity connection. Loved this book. Opened my eyes to the medium world and made me a believer that perhaps there is something beyond our stay on Earth. Her dialogues with experts in the medium field made me hunt down some of their works and I am eager to attend conferences addressing these issues. I loved her visits to the town Lily Dale in upper New York founded by spiritualists. Most of all i loved the style of her writing and her journey to find meaning in her life. For all of us that have lost someone there is a huge comfort factor to this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest. Poignant. Hope-filled., October 23, 2007

I thought this was going to be the chronicle of a daughter's search for confirmation that there is something after this life. I was wrong. This is so much more. It is one of the most profound, honest, heart-wrenching love stories I've ever read. Sometimes it's laugh-out-loud funny. The next moment it's so poignant my heart weeps. All in all, it's filled with the wide range of emotions that accompanies the lost and found of a beloved father. I know, I've been there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely Captivating, November 8, 2007
This review is from: Stay Tuned: Conversations with Dad from the Other Side (Hardcover)
I read Ms. Weigel's touching and heart-felt personal tale in a single sitting. She deftly (and often humorously) tackles universal subjects such as career crises, spiritual ambiguity and the inexplicable grief of losing a beloved parent.

I read the whole book - there was enough to keep me going. As a matter of fact, it could have been my story minus the media and minor celebrity connection. That being said, I don't think that my story is interesting enough to tell and I suspect that the only reason her story got published was because of her celebrity connection. The story is basically built on an unsatisfying and overly romanticised relationship with her father and a couple of significant (in her mind)psychic readings. What I enjoyed about the book could have been condensed to one chapter, the rest was mundane filler. I was also surprised that a journalist didn't have more of a talent for writing (hers was very, very average). It does make you appreciate those who do have the gift of storytelling such as Mary Karr, Frank McCourt, Martha Beck, etc...

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Read, October 20, 2007
This review is from: Stay Tuned: Conversations with Dad from the Other Side (Hardcover)
I really didn't expect this book to be as good as it was. I've never read a book about death and the other side that was also hilarious.

If you've ever lost someone, ever thought about working in the news media, have been to Chicago or have been curious about mediums and those that do readings you will really enjoy this book. I finished it in about three days.

I can't recommend it enough.

I read this in one sitting and loved every word. It is so moving and uplifting without being "preachy" in the least. Written with humor and heart. Now I want to visit Lily Dale!

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely Satisfying, March 24, 2008

I am completely in awe of this book! I read it cover to cover in only one day-I absolutely could not put it down!! I found Mrs. Weigel's journey to be enlightening and most profound, and I experienced real emotion while reading this incredible book. I laughed and cried, and my heart hurt for her. I so enjoyed this book, it brought to me a fascination with spirituality I didn't know I had. I find myself wanting to read the books Mrs. Weigel herself read, and I want to learn more about the medium and psychic world. I simply cannot express in words what this book did for me. I highly recommend this to anyone who has lost a loved one, and hope it will bring you as much feeling, happiness and appreciation for life as it did for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Touching Journey, October 22, 2007
This review is from: Stay Tuned: Conversations with Dad from the Other Side (Hardcover)
I was surpised and delighted; sad and hopeful; amused and touched. This book took me on a journey I didn't expect. More than a search for the "other side" this book is a daughter's love letter to her father that she shares with the rest of us. It is an entertaining read filled with both pathos and humor.

Anyone who has lost a parent, struggled with career issues/choices or questioned or searched for their spirituality will relate to and be moved by this book. In a poignant and honest way, Jenniffer Weigel takes us through her own journey - making us cry AND laugh along the way. I could not put this book down until I was done. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it made me think: Thank you in advance....

5.0 out of 5 stars A heartfelt and compelling story, April 25, 2010
This review is from: Stay Tuned: Conversations with Dad from the Other Side (Hardcover)
After "Stay Tuned" arrived in the mail I initially sat down just to scan it, but quickly got so drawn into the story that I read the entire book in one evening. That's something I hadn't done in perhaps 10 years or more. I found Ms. Weigel's writing to be very heartfelt and down-to-earth in style, and the story itself was very compelling. In some sense it's hard to classify this work, as one could call it an insightful spiritual and personal growth book, yet at the same time it is a very personal memoir about how she dealt with the loss of her father to a very devastating terminal illness. In either case it's a wonderful book, and as such, I highly recommend it.
