3.0 out of 5 stars Not really the best, September 7, 2000
By A Customer
Not even close to the best. It's good, especially if you already know and love NRBQ. If this rockin' good time band is new to you, I recommend you get the Yankee Stadium LP (it's not live, but has that live feel). This will give you a good taste of the band.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wrong title- Great, though not the greatest..., March 24, 2006
By Gary Hobish "evil genius" (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Calling this "the best of NRBQ" was probably the idea of some marketing guy at Columbia after a few beers- which, coincidentally, is a great way to listen to this compilation from the original NRBQ lineup. This is pre- Al Anderson 'Q, featuring the great Steve Ferguson on guitar, whose solo stuff you should search out IMMEDIATELY, and whose influence can be heard down the NRBQ guitar line, in both Big Al and Johnny Spampinato.

NRBQ was only with Columbia for, like, one and a half albums (the "half" being "Boppin' The Blues," which is half NRBQ, half NRBQ backing Carl Perkins, and all great; it's still available on CD.) Although it's nice to have these tracks available on CD, the actual first eponymous NRBQ album is MIA and would have been a better choice than this really good, yet somewhat unfocused collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Footstompin Tunes, June 14, 2000
By "velcrojared" (Brooklyn, NY USA) - See all my reviews
The songs on this compilation are less kitschy and funny than the newer NRBQ works. However, they are also more danceable and catchy. A good total career CD to own for NRBQ fans, although it leaves out the recent years. For new NRBQ listeners, it will give a good picture of early NRBQ, but won't show what makes new NRBQ so darn pleasureable. All in all, I'm definitely glad I own it.
