5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a must have for all moms-stay at home or not!
I was a bit frenzied and feeling unappreciated being a stay home mom- until I read this book! It totally put my "job" into perspective and gave me a fresh, new outlook on my life. The advice and encouragement Donna gives is extremely contagious! I am using many of her tips in my life now. My whole family is the better thanks to Donna and her wonderful book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Condescending to Working Moms
I read this book when I was still working but was contemplating staying at home. I found it to be very condescending to "working" moms, with basically no allowance for those who "have to" work or those whom God has put in the workplace for His purposes. It assumes that all mothers want to, and should be, at home, without allowance for God's will in their individual...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book . . . read it again and again, January 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Stay-at-Home Mom: For Women at Home And Those Who Want to Be (Paperback)
My husband gave this book to me as a gift, as we were struggling with the thought of making the necessary sacrifices for me to stay at home. I have read this book MANY times before, during, and after our decision for me to become a stay-at-home mom. I credit this book for providing us with the encouragment (Biblical, as well as moral) to make the right decision for myself and my family. This book was truly a blessing to us.

This review is from: The Stay-at-Home Mom: For Women at Home And Those Who Want to Be (Paperback)
This book provides helpful insight for women struggling with the decision to stay home with their children. The best part of this book is a section of things to pray for your children that was truly inspiring and thoughtful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything I wanted to know about staying at home and more, July 19, 1998
This review is from: The Stay-at-Home Mom: For Women at Home And Those Who Want to Be (Paperback)
"If you think you're alone, you're not!" This is the best way to describe this excellent book in a nutshell. Donna Otto writes in a humorous, yet very serious and straight forward manner about the choice of being a stay at home mom. It had everything I was looking for and more.... From moral and Biblical support for my choice or decision to stay at home to practical ways of being a good wife/mom/friend/companion and to be good to myself too. Taking it from someone with experience, who already "delivered the goods", this is a MUST for every woman who are either already staying at home or who are faced with the dilemma of choosing between going back to work after the baby or staying at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book, June 27, 2001
This review is from: The Stay-at-Home Mom: For Women at Home And Those Who Want to Be (Paperback)
If you have to make a decision or have even made it already this is a great book. It is easy to get frustrated and wish for something else but Donna helps you keep things in perspective. Whenever I feel discouraged about staying home I pick out certain parts of the book and read it along with the bible verses she gives. I have read it over and over and will continue to do so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mentor for new stay-at-home Christian moms, April 2, 2005
This review is from: The Stay-at-Home Mom: For Women at Home And Those Who Want to Be (Paperback)
Brought this book 3 years ago when I first stay home. This book provides practical suggestions as to how a stay home mom can better utilize resources and save time and energy. The book also spent a chapter discussed how a stay home mother can start a home business. I think you have to be a Christian mother to cherish and appreciate the layout of this book. The author discussed the impacts of a Christian mother to her children; and how the decision of staying home can bring blessing to the family and the community.

5.0 out of 5 stars BRAVO!, September 25, 2006
This review is from: The Stay-at-Home Mom: For Women at Home And Those Who Want to Be (Paperback)
In a society that tends to shun mommies-at-home, this book gives great encouragement & confidence to the women that choose to sacrifice many things by staying at home with their precious gifts from God. Thank you, Donna, for going against the flow and writing such an Abba-inspired book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Condescending to Working Moms, July 10, 2007

I read this book when I was still working but was contemplating staying at home. I found it to be very condescending to "working" moms, with basically no allowance for those who "have to" work or those whom God has put in the workplace for His purposes. It assumes that all mothers want to, and should be, at home, without allowance for God's will in their individual lives. I'm very thankful for Christian working moms, including teachers and nurses, in my children's lives.

She also mentions that her husband is an attorney in Scottsdale, AZ. That's not my reality. Nor is it the reality of any of the other moms I worked with. Most of the working moms I know live simple lives, are loving and loyal to their families, selfless and frugal - not selfish and materialistic as she implies.

I am a stay-at-home mom now, but only after 10 years of seeking God and following his guidance step-by-step. I feel compassion for any mother - single, widowed, or (like my mom when I was growing up) the working poor -who reads this book. Instead of uniting Christian moms in our common love for Christ and our families, this book divides.

1.0 out of 5 stars "Being a woman of God in a world of children" - heads up!, May 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Stay-at-Home Mom: For Women at Home And Those Who Want to Be (Paperback)
The editorial reviews fail to mention the no-holds barred Christian approach to this book. It does not offer suggestions on choosing to remain home, but dives right in, "...being a stay-at-home mom will enrich you as a woman of God." (p. 27). Subsequent chapers include: "The Ministry of Motherhood," "Presenting Little Saints to the King," and "Supporting the Man Who Lifted Your Veil." Based upon religious guidelines, the book offers suggestions, such as "Training a child through discipline requirs that you break his will, not his spirit." (p. 89). If you want a religious at-home-mom book, go for it. I wish I had known the religious overtones to this book *before* I bought it. Used copy, anyone?
