Editorial Reviews

As reviewed by GUITARIST'S FORUM at GFmusic. (Used with permission.): This is Guy's tribute to his guitar hero and good friend Chet Atkins. The CD is drawn from a series of recordings Guy made over the years to amuse Chet Atkins. Guy would arrange a tune that he was sure Chet had never recorded. He'd imitate Chet as closely as possible, then send the tape to Chet asking, "do you remember recording this?" Van Duser fans won't recognize Guy--but that's exactly the point. His goal here was to sound like Chet Atkins' LPs from the '60s and '70s--and he does it perfectly! Instead of his usual solo nylon string guitar, Guy is playing a Gretsch electric over bass and drum tracks. Another surprise is Guy's incredible single note leads. Somewhere, Mr. Atkins must be smiling. Highly recommended. Note: Don't let this be the only Guy Van Duser album you own. You owe it to yourself to hear Guy playing his signature Stride Guitar style--on an acoustic nylon string guitar! It's no secret that I think he's one of the best, with a sound that's all his own. TRACKS: You / Bridge Over The River Kwai / She's My Shirley / Darktown Strutter's Ball / Ida (Sweet As Apple Cider) / I Don't Know Why / Keiko-san / I Love My Baby / Limehouse Blues / Stars Fell On Alabama / Roses Of Picardi / Abbey Walk

5.0 out of 5 stars Part 1 of a Great 2-CD Tribute to Chet Atkins, May 10, 2007
By
This review is from: Staying On the Atkins Diet (Audio CD)
This CD and Atkins for Life comprise Guy's 2-CD musical salute to his guitar hero and good friend Chet Atkins. However, please don't let these Atkins tributes be the only Guy Van Duser CDs you own. You owe it to yourself to hear Guy playing his signature Stride Guitar style--on an acoustic nylon string guitar! If you've never heard him play, I strongly recommend that you also check out Guy's two "Live" CDs Live From Boulevard Music - Guy Van Duser and Guy Van Duser & Billy Novick - LIVE in Washington, D.C.. For studio recordings Guy & Billy, Lovely Sunday Afternoon: Classic Jazz, or Every Little Moment are some more great choices. If you're a fan of great guitar (and incredible, melodic clarinet) you really can't go wrong with any of Guy and Billy's CDs.
