Use it or LOSE it! Flexibility is Important!, January 8, 2010
This review is from: Staying Flexible: The Full Range of Motion (Time-Life Fitness Program) (Hardcover)
From the age of 30 on, the human body starts to lose flexibility and motor balance skills from the bottom up. Mainly due to lack of use. Unless you flex your joints and muscles, they can stiffen and atrophy from disuse. This can lead to stiffness, inability to reach or bend, and other limiting range of motion issues.
I found this book at the thrift store, for $1.99, and would gladly pay full new price for the information contained. The book starts by showing you how to measure your flexibility (or lack of), and then gives you a multitude of EASY YET EFFECTIVE exercises for all the parts of your body. You choose those which you can do, and target those areas where you need more flexibility. Many of them are so simple you can do them throughout the day, thereby continuously working on improving yourself, without having to set aside a specific time to exercise.
I've only had the book about 3 weeks, but I am finding that I am standing a bit straighter, can stretch a bit farther, and have a bit more limberness in my lower legs (my personal problem area).
