Brenda Smith Myles' Favorite Social Skills Book,
By
This review is from: Staying in the Game: Providing Social Opportunities for Children and Adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Other Developmental Disabilities (Paperback)
This is my favorite social skills book because its focus is on how our learners can generalize social skills across context -- environments, people, activities, etc ... Loomis visually depicts a model that shows educational professionals and families how to support social skills development for those on the spectrum. I incorporate the Loomis model into all of my presentations on social competence for students with ASD. Easy to use, yet comprehensive.

This review is from: Staying in the Game: Providing Social Opportunities for Children and Adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Other Developmental Disabilities (Paperback)
Very thorough book detailing strategies to assist middle and high school students on the autistic spectrum to develop social skills appropriate to the demands of an increasingly complex social millieu. The book is written for special educators and aides as well as parents. The recommendations are specific and clearly ennumerated making them concrete enough to include in an individualized education plan (IEP).
