Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Lighthouses take us back to a time when place still had meaning, before high-speed travel and the Internet shrank the world down to laptop size. Many still exist on the shores of oceans and larger lakes, and some of these are open to guests. Staying at a Lighthouse explores the lovely, secluded world of the keepers and visitors who truly get away from it all in some of the most romantic bed-and-breakfasts in the United States. From Maine to California, these unique inns are gateways to the 19th century, when radar and GPS were still generations away and the safety of ships required these American castles to dot the coast. Footage of the countryside and interviews with relaxed guests whet the appetite for a break from traffic and crowds; Staying at a Lighthouse is just the thing to counter 21st-century stress. --Rob Lightner

From the Back Cover

Whether they were abandoned long ago or still stand as beacons in the fog, hundreds of lighthouses decorate the beautiful shores of North America. But only a few invite you to stay the night. Staying at a Lighthouse visits these unique overnight havens, offering a personal tour of the most sought-after landmarks in the country. A few lighthouses operate as grand Bed and Breakfast Inns. Others provide a more rustic experience, offering guests a retreat from the hustle and bustle of their daily lives. But they all provide an experience that is romantic, renewing and above all, memorable. Includes Heceta Head Lighthouse in Oregon, East Brother Light Station in California, Sand Hills Lighthouse Inn in Michigan, Rose Island Lighthouse in Rhode Island, Saugerties Lighthouse in New York, Race Point Lighthouse and Monomoy Point Lighthouse in Massachusetts, The Keeper's House Inn in Maine, and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for "Lighthouse Hunters!", March 10, 2000
This review is from: Staying at a Lighthouse [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Traveling to a lighthouse to walk around and photograph it is great. Actually staying at a lighthouse is fantastic! This video is very well done. My family and I are actually going to the Saugerties Light in NY thanks to this video.

3.0 out of 5 stars Where have I seen this video before?, July 25, 2004
By
This review is from: Staying at a Lighthouse [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I ordered this video based on information provided by Amazon and the one previous customer review. While it's a fine program, prospective buyers should note that all this material
has been taken from the 6-part series, Legendary Lighthouses, available on DVD. If you have that DVD box-set this will be
duplicate material and a big disappointment. Buy this video if you are interested only in accomodation at a lighthouse, and not in the whole story.
