5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a "diet" I enjoy staying on!, October 7, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Steak Lovers' Diet (Unbound)
I'm sick and tired of diets it is impossible to stay on, and when you quit in disgust you gain back all the weight and more! Dr. Anchell's "The Meat Lover's Diet" is hardly a diet. In the few weeks I have been on it I have lost more weight than promised in the book without feeling any hunger. Best of all, - my blood pressure is slowly coming down. It used to be nearly impossible to control, even with medication. I recommend the book highly. Let cows and other ruminants digest the vegetables for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Steak. It's not just for Sundays any more., December 24, 1998

This review is from: The Steak Lovers' Diet (Unbound)
I've been on this diet for almost three months now, and I've lost nearly 20 lbs (even though I've strayed quite a bit over the holiday season.) My family, friends, and coworkers all thought I was nuts to give up bread and vegetables when I started, but they've all seen the results, and now a few of them plan to start! This is by far the best book on diet and nutrition I've ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lost weight without ever being hungry, March 22, 2006

Based on long-standing beliefs, it's hard to imagine that a way of eating structured like this one could cause weight loss, but it does indeed work. My problem with the low-fat/low-calorie diets was that I was almost always hungry, and low-carb diets left me with a lot of carb cravings.

However, the SLD ensured I was always satiated and I lost over fifty pounds inside of a year (roughly a pound a week). In addition, I have more energy and generally feel better overall since switching to this way of eating.

Also of note: Mr. Anchell also presents a less strict version of the plan that is supposed to not cause weight loss and leave you at five pounds over your ideal, but I've since moved to that eating pattern and am still dropping pounds. The weight loss occurs much more slowly, but is still coming off.

This is the only diet book I recommend to others, and it will always have my personal highest recommendation.

This book adds more chinks in the armour to the Cholesterol theory of heart disease. The author has lots of experience, but fails to mention many double blind tests on meat eating... particularly on fat consumption. The author does present lots of information on various groups that are healthy and are meat eaters (Eskimos, tribes in Africa). He also presents some longevity statistics of vegetarians vs. meat eaters... that favors the meat eaters. I think the definitive book has yet to be written, and the cause of atherscerlosis remains to be determined. Overall I thought it was a good book and I'll keep it next to my Ornish/McDougal - vegetarian-style, low-fat books.

Easy to read, well organized.

Effective, but extremely monotonous. Moreso that any lowcarb plan I've seen...not to say that its that low in carbs.
