3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By C. O. Aptowicz on March 3, 2012
I lived in NYC for fifteen years, and am deeply drawn to any book that can evoke New York City for me. Sometime a poet might focus on the romance of the city, other times the crushing pressure, still others wax on about the multi-cultural ebbs and flows that remixes languages at every subway stop. And yet, "Steal Me For Your Stories" evoked from me something extremely rare: the beautiful madness of NYC. In these short stories, we bounce around the NYC landscape, meeting people who are defining by their wants, their urgency, their desires. The choices they make and the adventures they go on seem formed the city around them, which demands that everyone be extraordinary and thus forces people to be the most extraordinary version of who they can't help but be. It is powerful, maddening & exhausting process, and Todd nails it with his confident and unblinking writing. I recommend "Steal Me for Your Stories" to any expat New Yorkers -- or anyone who wishes they were!

When something you read makes other writing you have cherished in your life seem so-so, you know your reading something special. More than the content and its raw, naked form that carries through the stories that make up Steal Me, for me, it is the writing...beautiful from start to finish that pulled me in and allowed me to emotionally connect to this collection.

I am eager to read more from this writer.

An amazing series of short stories. You're in the presence of great writing when a sentence can simultaneously make you laugh and break your heart a little bit. Those sensitive human cores can't hide, no matter how tough the exterior of these characters. Great rhythm, poetic. You stop and think, re-read sentences often.
