Great rock returns,

I first saw Wild Turkey in 73 as a opening act for Jethro Tull. I was very impressed. Glen Cornick left Tull right before Aqualung, probably a bad career move but the result is some very tasty rock. Their first lp Battle Hymn and their second simply titled Turkey were great 70's rock. Kinda like Tull without the flute. I found this cd by accident and its more of the same. The group returns with three orginal members Glen Cornick, Gary Pickford-Hopkins and Tweke Lewis. If you like the first two this is more of the same and if you've never heard Wild Turkey I suggest you buy all three. Its a pleasure in todays boring rock world to hear some fresh new music.

Wild Turkey's 1972 album "Battle Hymn" remains one of my all-time favorite albums, so I had to pick this reunion album up, featuring original members Glen Cornick (he of Jethro Tull fame), vocalist Gary Hopkins and guitarist Tweke Lewis. The great surprise is that they still sound great on this 1996 album, that apparently only now is seeing the light of day in the States. While a few songs, (including track one - so don't let it fool you) tread the ground of tired, seventies-style riff rock, the rest of the album reverts between that unique, Tull-inspired Turkey of the seventies, with more modern, acoustic-based rock that offers great melodies, and some inspired guitar playing by the underrated Lewis. "Anthem of the universe" and "American Song" in particular have been repeated over and over on my CD player due to their beautiful melodic structure and inspired lyrics and vocals by Hopkins. I hope these guys get back together again, and maybe track down original member Jon Blackmore. And if you can find a CD copy of "Battle Hymn", grab it. The sound quality is awesome, but it is sadly out of print.

In my opinion this is quite good "comeback" album.
Their sound is still very fine. Same quality level than "Battle Hymn and Turkey" Good purchase. Booklet is normal with lyrics.
