Say It Ain't So,
By Karl Davis (Sydney, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stealing Beauty: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
"Say It Ain't So" is by Roland Gift, ex-Fine Young Cannibals. As far as I know it was never released, and only appears over the end credits of this film. I've tried to find it as a single or on an album, without success.Roland's record company, London Records, do not have it on their catalogue, and I suspect that it isn't available anywhere. If anyone knows different, please let me know. The only solution I can think of is to get the DVD and make an audio copy. It's an awesome song, such a shame it wasn't included on the soundtrack. Don't let this distract you from getting this soundtrack - it is still one of my favourites, 4 years after I first bought it.

Perfect Fit For the Movie & Makes Great Mood Music,
This review is from: Stealing Beauty: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
The CD for Stealing Beauty is a classic, a must-have for every '90's music fan, fans of sexy, trip-hop music, and fans of Billie Holiday and other classic love/blues artists. I've heard it played in several coffeehouses in Seattle, where it fit perfectly, and I often hear tracks from it on the radio. The songs, though different, and from different eras, go well together when played straight through. They track, in a way, the progression of the film as well, from the opening sequence shots of Liv Tyler with Hoover's "2 Wicky" to Sam Philips' "I Need Love" at the end, when she's finally found her love. In between lies the story told by the film, with party scenes and the great fire-lit sex scene recalled well with tracks such as Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" and Mazzy Star's hypnotic "Rhymes of an Hour." My two favorite tracks are the up and hopping "Rocket Boy" by Liz Phair, and Billie Holiday's classic "I'll Be Seeing You," and I also really like the last track, the bittersweet "I Need Love." A song that's missing on the soundtrack is "Olympia" by Hole, which Tyler belts out (lip-synching) half-way through the film. As a Seattleite who grew up listening to Nirvana, I wish that track had been included. I'd say, "buy this CD!" I've had it for years, and it still often gets airtime in my house. It gets you in a flirty, arty mood, just like the movie.

Stealing Beauty Soundtrack,
By A Customer
This review is from: Stealing Beauty: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I agree with the others that it was a major disappointment that the Roland Gift song at the closing credits was not included. It is a fantastic song and I have been unable to get a copy. Otherwise, this is one of my favorite CD's to play while flying across the country or for cruising on long trips. Great eclectic group of great songs, none of which I would pass on. Someone -- get me a copy of the Roland Gift song!
