One of the Best Books on Sorcery Around,
By Sandra "HotChick21" (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stealing the Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
This book is really one of the best books on sorcery I have read. It does not have the popularity it deserves; this is one of the few books which contains real magickal techniques that will actually work.
I particularly was interested in and enjoyed the portions discussing automatic drawing and the creation of a personal Alphabet of Desire.

Truly impressed,
By Roy "Roy" (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stealing the Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
When I start reading a book on sorcery, I keep going until my BS-ometer goes into the red zone. But that never happened. It almost always does when Crowley is referenced, or when the author impresses me as an out of work psychologist with a secret desire to be a comedian, or as a pompous, condescending, con-artist. No "red alert", no "WTF am I reading this for?", no "stop and pay attention instead of thinking about the grocery list" - because this is a neat working manual built on solid principles.
The book is primarily based on the work of A.O. Spare, who was a genius of the rarest kind, but a little tough on folks who have a hard time with less than Pulitzer/Nobel quality writing. If you're a beginner, forget the Cunningham/Golden Dawn/neo-shamanic/Wicca/pseudo-alchemy/Quabalah (spelled this way on purpose) books for now - save all that reading for later, after you have had some success with Magick first. If you've already been disappointed by that sort of thing, pick this up, it will renew your enthusiasm for the craft. I recognize that there are different ways to go about doing some of the activities he suggests, but he does as well, and that is another thing I like about this book. I don't agree with everything written here, but I don't feel that smothering demand for obedience that is so common in books of this type. That, in itself, is refreshing, like having a conversation with a colleague instead of being bossed around by someone else's father substitute. This is one of the best introductions to practical magick available anywhere. BTW - this book is back in print, Amazon.

Magic at it's best,
By
This review is from: Stealing the Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
Don't hesitate to buy this small book in case you're looking for a brief summary of the most important and practical elements of magick. This book doesn't require to belief in a special sort of magic systems. Take it, read it and use it within your own universe.

BECOME A REAL SORCERER!!,
By
This review is from: Stealing the Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
this book is the real deal!!it teaches you how to create your own system of sorcery that means something to YOU which is the best way to create REAL magick!the methods in this book are to be taken SERIOUSLY,such as commanding spirits etc.THIS IS NOT FOR DABBLERS!!!! I REPEAT,THIS IS NOT FOR DABBLERS!!!! the proof of the effectiveness of this book is the fact that it's almost always sold out on amazon and that some unscrupulous sellers on amazon market place sell it for upwards of $200.00!! i had to order my copy directly from the publisher, dagon productions and i'm glad i did! i only paid $15 (thanks doug!).my advice is if you can't get it from amazon for cover price,or from an amazon marketplace seller at a REASONABLE price order it directly from the publisher.

A Modern Grimoire with a nasty bite!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Stealing the Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
Every once in a while an author creates; or becomes, a transmitter of occult wisdom. Stephen Mace has birthed a truly remarkable tome for "ALL" budding, and or, experienced sorcery practitioners. He pulls no punches, and with subtle fingers delivers the "goods" concerning (Results-Based-Sorcery). This is one volume you'll want in your collection of occult books!

I read the other reviews and this is probably the one time where amazon reviews were accurate. This is a must have for anyone, especially anyone who works solo.

Really good info,
By
This review is from: Stealing the Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
This a really good book even though it is a short read. I think I read it twice in a day. There is a lot of information within it even though it is so short. He gives plenty of suggestions for further work and what could be done. However, it does seem like just a book that clarifies A.O. Spare's works. Which is not a bad thing, it just seems as if he could have offered some new information along with it. I do recommend it though! Especially if you are looking to make your own system.

Crossed Wires,
By
This review is from: Stealing the Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
There is a bad error in the reviews for this book. All of the reviews for THIS TITLE about AUSTIN OSMAN SPARE have been confused with a different book by the same title
written by an author named Mace. Now,while this book utilizes material by Spare, the reviews that you see are NOT for the book shown that is AUTHORED by Spare. The IHO title in question is a critique of spare's art with with comparisons of some work that he supposedly plagiarized from other artists. It contains NO magical training or techniques. BE AWARE OF THIS if you are looking at this title!I THINK that this discrepancy by Amazon with the reviews may be an honest mistake, and should be corrected. But if you buy the IHO title looking for occult instruction, you will be disappointed.Beware! The symbols have been confused! |
