Book Description

April 26, 2009
When Margo Cappolini is abducted by a West Virginia fan who hears messages in her song lyrics, she is drawn back into her unfinished life as an 80's singer- a cascading storm of rock music, insatiable desires, and a daughter she has never known. Stealing Margo is your all-access, backstage pass to a place where intrigue and danger collide, and you won't even try to guess what's next! Author Chad Peery draws from his musician years with bands like Steppenwolf and Bob Welch of Fleetwood Mac, and creates brilliant music scenes in Stealing Margo.   His musician's approach to literature carries a refreshing lyrical quality, and makes for an intriguing, easy read.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"In this emotionally charged, dramatic and compelling story, Peery gives his audience an all-access backstage pass into the ups and downs of 80's rock and roll.  Reading Stealing Margo is akin to driving over a bumpy unpaved road to the most magnificent view at the top of a mountain."

More About the Author

Chad Peery began his music career at the age of 11 playing in his mother's dance band in Siskiyou County, CA. Drunken cowboys howling at the moon and telling stories were early role models.

The glory days in Los Angeles: 70's and 80's, played bass guitar with John Kay & Steppenwolf, Bob Welch (Fleetwood Mac), Peter Banks (Yes), Gary Lewis and the Playboys, and many others. Appeared in stadiums and arenas with Foreigner, Starship, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller, Eddie Money, Cars, etc. High point: played with Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood at Cal Jam II before 300,000 people. Low point: The siege of Thessaloniki, Greece, 1981. We didn't start the trouble, honest.

Mid-80s: Desiring to put down roots, turned to radio broadcasting. Air talent and programmer in Southern Oregon, Southern California, Tampa, Raleigh, Miami, West Palm Beach, West Virginia, and Chico CA.

Began writing fiction in 1990, publishing several short stories and two novels. Studied in John DuFresne's workshop at University of Miami.

Currently lives in the Chico CA area, where Chad oversees programming of four radio stations. Prolific writer and photographer.

I enjoyed this book every bit as much as Chad's other book Smoking Jimi. Anyone who has ever played music for a living would love this book. Chad's combination of clever wordplay and "insider speak" concerning musicianship and the music business make for a very compelling read. Beside that, this book has a good bit of "emotional depth" and explores some very serious issues. Parts of this book are quite romantic as well.

Personally, I LOVED the fact that Margo's father found solitude and comfort listening to Steppenwolf, as I still do after 40 years (they have been one of my favorite bands since I was 9 years old!). I also liked the fact that one of the pivotal chapters of the book took place in Nashville, my home town.

I hope Chad Peery keeps writing books like this. He is an EXCEPTIONAL new talent who deserves to be very successful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved Stealing Margo, May 3, 2009

This book is excellent & easy to read.

The phrasing, in particular, is amazing. The author paints a picture in your mind with one phrase - great writing!

The story line is multi-layered & unexpected- thus very original & creative. Kept my interest.

The author's experience in the rock & roll world of the 80's adds the the realism & believability of the story. I felt like I was onstage in front of that audience with Margo.

A good rock & roll adventure with a lot of heart, indeed!
