4.0 out of 5 stars It seems to be able to serve it's purpose
Since I evaluate a lot of my purchases using Amazon.com reviews, I feel I should give my opinions on this trail cam. When it comes to trail cams, you pretty much get what you pay for. In the $1-200 range, it's gonna either be hit or miss among the same type of unit. If you want a good one, I hear Reconyx makes the best. Don't know from experience though. I know a lot...

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible night shots
Nights shots are TERRIBLE! Overexposed, all pink and blue, blurry. Most animals come out at night, so if you can't get a decent night shot, what's the point? I would not recommend this stealth cam. No response to email questions about resolving this issue from the manufacturer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stealth Cam 1850, December 2, 2009
This review is from: Stealth Cam Jim Shockey "Sniper Pro" 8.0 Mega Pixel Digital Camera (Sports)
This camera sucks. The flash images are washed out. I ordered a lock system for my 1850 and the lock system sent fits over the cord to hold it to the tree and the lock system is sloppy and still had to go buy a pad lock. Pictures are grainy for a 8 mm. I've called the tech line at Stealth and it busy day and night and they won't answer my emails for the last three weeks for help.

I know a lot of people have problems with this particular unit, and I am one of them...sort of. I had gotten this thing as a package with a First Champion 2GB SD card from Dick's and just opened it the other night. I popped the SD card in and took some pics. When I plugged it into my comp, the pics wouldn't load ("unable to view image" error). I took the memory card out, and took some pics having them save to the built in 38MB memory. This time I could view the images on my computer. I intially took the pics inside my white-colored rooms and they were very washed out due to the very bright flash, so I took it outside (where it was dark) and shot a few. In my opinion, the outodoor night picks turned out great, even on base (1.3mP) settings. Yes there was some white out on lightly colored objects. but it does what it needs to do.
So then I had to figure out the SD card issue because what's the point of using this thing if it can only hold 38 pics? After searching for people who had similar issues (seems to be problematic in other brands as well) and calling Stealth Cam, I figured it was the SD card I was using. Apparently, trail cams are very finicky with the types of SD cards they can read/write. It was recommended from Stealth Cam to use a SanDisk 4GB SD card with this unit. I got one and went home to try it out. Sure enough, the pics and video were now viewable on my computer. The daytime video turned out quite nice, too.
I can't give a review on durability, lifespan, or range since I only had it working since today. I will be testing it this coming season, so if anything breaks down or doesn't work properly I'll be sure to let you know.

It just doesn't do anything. It doesn't take pictures, doesn't store pictures, and "doesn't work with MAC". Look elsewhere.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Camera I OWN!!!, November 3, 2010
By
This review is from: Stealth Cam Jim Shockey "Sniper Pro" 8.0 Mega Pixel Digital Camera (Sports)
Don't waste your money! I own 4 different trail cameras and this is the worst one. All the other cameras i own were less expensive than this one as well. I tried using the video setting and camera setting and all my nighttime footage was black. In a few of the nighttime videos you could barely make out a deer. I was out bow hunting, took a deer which walked 10 ft away from the camera right in front of it and nothing. I took the deer and after getting down from the bow stand the camera took a photo of me and i walked the same path as the deer. No telling how many animals have walked by and nothing. Most of the pics are blank as well. The day pics of deer it did get looked good, but overall the camera is garbage. I tried to call stealthcam several times and waited on hold for over an hour each time before getting disconnected. I emailed them and they want me to pay to ship it back so they can fix it. Worst customer service ever. They said it will take 4-6 weeks to fix and send back. The season will be over by then. What a waste of money. Don,t make the same mistake, buy something else.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mine Works Great!!, November 23, 2010
This review is from: Stealth Cam Jim Shockey "Sniper Pro" 8.0 Mega Pixel Digital Camera (Sports)
I agree with "Handy Man"! I was skeptical at first but for the price I took a shot- it paid off earlier on a projection screen with bad reviews so I thought why not. It has worked excellect for me. I followed his advice- read the book- proper cardinal direction from the sun is important- like with any camera. I have had great use of it. During my "testing" phase of it, I set it up at the house to see if my hunch of where the dog was sneaking through the fence was correct. I caught him!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk, don't waste your time or money., February 27, 2010
This review is from: Stealth Cam Jim Shockey "Sniper Pro" 8.0 Mega Pixel Digital Camera (Sports)
I bought this after my Moultrie was stolen. It was a package deal with lock, cable and 2 G. memory card. It would have been a great deal the camera worked. I configured the camera, formatted the memory card and locked it on a tree. Went out 2 days later and swapped memory cards. Brought the card home and plugged it in and had good pictures. Went back out a few days later, swapped the card out, came home and no pictures. Repeated a third time with the same results. Pulled the camera and brought home and tested. I validated it actually took pictures buy standing in front of it until the flash went off. Pulled the memory card, no pictures. I check the memory card in a Bushnell and the card is good. Don't waste your time or money. I now have to drive 50 miles to return it.

This review is from: Stealth Cam Jim Shockey "Sniper Pro" 8.0 Mega Pixel Digital Camera (Sports)
At first I was very impressed with this camera, now the more I have used it I am not so sure, I had a nice buck under the tree this morning at dawn and I took pictures of him from the house with my zoom lens and couldnt wait to see the close ups from my stealth cam, well the night shots of some does were fine but all the images from dawn of this nice buck were so washed out that you couldnt see anything, its like they were over-exposed. After some web browsing it seems this is a common occurance so I am searching for a better camera, any suggestions? Ok here is an update on my last review, after days of trying to get in touch with customer service and repeated images that are so washed out and bright that you cannot see a single thing in the image!! As a matter of fact I have added such a picture on the product page. Pay just a little more and find a better camera!!!

People must read the book. This camera works great and you need to make sure the flash is turned on. I would say to only use sandisk in it, as that seems to work great. I have had the trail camera set up for 5 days and have seen 3 bucks and a number of does. Seems to work great for under a $100.oo dollars. Please read the book and camera will work great. I read the bad reviews and was thinging there must be something people are doing wrong, and it look like if the base setting where put in the book it would help for the people like me that just what to get up on the hill and set it up. Chain and lock only keeps people from takening cam but Bears take them.
