This book makes sense out of decades (plus centuries) of research and experiences with CMV in a way non-physicians/scientists can understand. The prologue alone is worth the read. It literally stopped me dead in my tracks.
Highly recommend this book to all practitioners and mothers-to-be. Thinking of a gift to give your OB/GYN at your first appointment??? This is it.
Well done, Prof Griffiths!
Babies infected CMV at birth (congenital CMV) is much more common than is made aware to the public. I really hope this book sheds some light on this devastating problem. Along with foundations like STOPCMV.org who spread the word to the public about CMV, I would love to see this disease eradicated like we have done with so many others.
I volunteer as much of my time as possible working to Stop CMV ([...]) so that more families don't endure what I and my family have been challenged with for the last 17 years. Fortunately, CMV has not, yet, taken my daughter as it has done to innumerable families around the globe.
(The following text was copied directly from the Centers for Disease Control website: [...])
CMV is the most common congenital (present at birth) viral infection in the U.S. Each year, about 5,500 (1 in 750) children in this country are born with or develop disabilities that result from congenital CMV infection. More children have disabilities due to this disease than other well-known congenital infections and syndromes, including Down syndrome, fetal alcohol syndrome, spina bifida, and pediatric HIV/AIDS.

This book was an excellent read. It made me speculate on other conditions or diseases that could be caused or exacerbated by CMV. Read morePublished on February 8, 2014 by Kindle Customer
