I bought this iron after reading the glowing reviews posted by some of the other buyers. It sounded like such a great iron especially when compared with the other higher priced steam generating irons. Unfortunately when I received it and tried it out, its performance turned out to be EXTREMELY dissatisfying.
There is a red indicator light on top of the iron handle which lights up when you turn on the iron to show that the soleplate is heating up. You are advised not to try to deploy any steam from the unit while this light is on. Instead, you have to wait about two minutes until the light turns off before you can press the steam button. The problem is that once the light does turn off and you press the steam button, the red light will turn on again after just a couple of seconds of steam to show that the soleplate temperature has dropped below the desired level (I tried using it at different heat levels with the same result). The manual says that this is normal and that you should lift the iron off the surface and wait until the light turns off again before proceeding to deploy any more steam. Also, if you do hold the steam button down any longer, the iron will begin spewing hot water onto your garment. At best I got about 2 seconds of steam at about 5 second intervals. If you are looking for an iron that produces a continous burst of steam, this is NOT your iron. I ironed one sleeve of one of my shirts and decided to return the iron for a refund, minus return shipping charges of course.

Update: More Trouble Than It's Worth,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Steam Fast SF-777 SteamJet Station Iron (Kitchen)
After owning this iron less than a year & rarely using it---maybe 3 dozen times, briefly---it died completely. Worst piece of junk I've ever wasted money on!
This sounded like a fantastic iron. It's not. The thick cords make it extremely unwieldy. Can't set the iron upright, not good. The worst thing about it is that you get steam for just a few seconds, after the iron has been on for awhile. Most of the time, instead of steam, the iron dumps out big spurts of water. Also, the temperature dial has a nasty habit of moving from whichever setting you placed it on. I believe this happens while ironing, somehow, because the dial is right under your hand while using it, and apparently the slightest touch spins the temperature dial up, up, up. Have scorched two expensive garments because I forgot to check every few seconds to see if the dial had strayed up from Delicate to Cotton.

I bought this because it was on sale for $20 on amazon.com. I was so excited to get this fency iron with steaming capability. As soon as the package arrived, I opened it up, filled it with distilled water, and turned it on. Within a minute, I was able to depress the steam button and got nice steam jet. I started ironing and within first five minutes it stopped producing the steam. I tried cooling it down and re-heating but no luck.
I sent it to warrranty service for repair, after paying $10 on shipping out of my pocket. Received the "repaired" iron and it showed exact same pattern. It looks like either I had a defective unit or the design itself is terrible. So you have been warned, beware of this iron. The iron itself still works but no steam. What good is an iron that can not produce heat?

I got this iron @$20, thinking great deal! It's NOT! Cord is way to heavy! Cant sit it upright while ironing. Spit water half the time, which causes water spots. Then after about 4 months just wouldnt work at all. Ended up just having to throw it out.

This thing is not worth the money. I got a better deal on it this summer and was happy, despite some design flaws. Then one day it just decided not to work anymore.

I used this for less than a year before it totally died.
It was great when it was working though. The unit will no longer turn on. That's pretty disappointing.

i bought this iron when the price fell to 20 bucks. ive used it 6 days out of the week. every wrinkle you thought you couldnt get out this iron does the trick! the only thing is that you need to use the metal extension for your iron to lay your iron down. the thick cord makes it hard to stand it up vertically. thats the only setback and that can be taken care of with a few bucks for the extension of your ironing board. with the ease it irons, the steam is produces with a push of the button, and the large amount of water it holds... i have to recommend this iron to anyone thats interested in it. i had to use 5 (i say 4.5) because 4 is too low considering the quality you get with the iron.

This product was not as durable as it had sounded on line. I had a steamfast iron in the past that I loved but this is definitely not the same quality.

Cheap Steamer,

I purchased this steamer for $19.99 through Amazon in October 2004. It does indeed shoot out plentiful amounts of HOT steam and works relatively well for a $20 item. I've had no problem removing wrinkles from suits, slacks and sport jackets. Considering that this steamer costs about 1/5 of what professional models cost, I'd consider it a good value.

This is a bulky iron, but has given me no problems whatsoever. I especially like the fact that the tank holds as much water as it does. For less than $19 in the Friday Sale, it is a DEAL. Others have given bad reviews, but if ya gotta iron, this is the one for me.
