While this book provides useful information for the modeler, it is disappointing in that it could have been so much better. With seventy-five years of Model Railroader Magazine archives the editor had to work from, and literally hundreds of pertinent articles, I expected a much better book. Why, for example, excerpt from an article, and not print the whole article? It seems like it is more an advertising vehicle for the Kalmbach Publishing download library than an attempt at a truly useful book.

Clear, direct instructions and full-color photographs detail the basics of a variety of model railroad activities including detailing, kitbashing, scratch building, painting, weathering, improving performance, and more. An excellent selection of well illustrated model railroading ideas.

John Pryke's compilation is perfect for the beginner and still useful as a reference for more seasoned modelers. As time passes this kind of information is harder and harder to find.
