This review is from: Steam Over Donner (Hardcover)
One of the advantages of growing up in the Sacramento area in the 1950's, and loving trains, was to love the time spent around SP Cab Forwards. As train fanatics my Father and I would watch steam starting at the turntable in Roseville, California and follow the trains all the way to Sparks, Nevada.
The cover of "Steam Over Donner" is the depiction of an AC-12 pulling a line of Pacific Fruit Express cars headed to Donner. Inside there are some great photos of every class of locomotive that pulled "The Hill", not just the articulateds. In front of a vast set of photos was a dialog telling some interesting facts about Donner, the trains over it, and the locos that got them there. I don't know what I expected, but my first glance was one of disapointment, but on second look, as a strictly photo book, it has merit, but more written description including the stories behind the pictures, would have been enjoyable. Sincerly, Cab Forwards on Pig Turd Alley |
