1.0 out of 5 stars Bad product
The design of this steamer is dumb. It doesn't even have an on/off button and the electric cord isn't very long. I had to plug it into a power strip so I could easily turn it on and off without having to plug and unplug it every time. It worked well for the first few months, but then started leaking water out of the plastic sides or bottom, so water would be leaked out on...

Got mine today and couldn't wait to test it out. Filled with distilled water to about 1/2" under the "max fill" mark. Took around a minute for water to boil. I gotta admit, it's a little scary at first to be toting around this container of furiously boiling water.
Tried it first on an old cotton shirt that I had already stuffed into a corner of the closet, to wrinkle it on purpose. It took a while, and I got the shirt "relaxed" but not "smooth". Aside from a very occasional drop (which evaporated away on the next pass), I didn't have any issues with it spitting hot water.
Next test: a wool blazer, now that I wasn't concerned about spraying boiling water all over it. I used the lint brush attachment, and hey! This thing actually works! It helped to pull the garment taut while steaming. Watch those fingers... I think I saw somebody recommend an using an oven mitt in a review somehere? Not a bad idea. Anyway, this was a success, and pretty easy to do.
Third test: a linen blazer, using the brush attachment. Maybe chalk it up to practice, but it looked perfect in no time. Yay!
In summation: I'm still going to iron shirts that need it, but goodbye drycleaning. It half paid for itself in just a couple of uses. The power cord is nice and long. I don't like that there's no steam trigger, or even an on/off switch... once you plug it in, it's on and steaming. Plus, it leaves garments steam-damp, and you need to let them hang out for 30 minutes or so to dry completely. But overall, it works as promised and saves me money. I'm satisfied withn the purchase and would recommend it to a friend. Hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Steamer!, March 8, 2009

I don't understand the negative reviews as this is a great little steamer and I've had it for years. I could only find it online and purchased one for both my Mother and my Aunt. The trick is using distilled water (to prevent buildup) and not overfilling. I don't ever fill it even to the maximum level. That's when you have spilling and spurting onto your clothes. If you expect it to work like an iron, it won't. And it works better on some materials than others. But if you're looking for a great way to freshen clothes and cut back on dry cleaning bills, this is it! I don't iron, so I use this for everything except my cotton work shirts, which I have dry cleaned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Convenient and fast, August 28, 2005
Used this product on chiffon material. It was very easy and convenient to use and smoothed out the wrinkles very easily. It's compact size makes it easy to store. It heats up quickly and makes a lot of steam. I am pleased with my purchase.

I had to plug it into a power strip so I could easily turn it on and off without having to plug and unplug it every time. It worked well for the first few months, but then started leaking water out of the plastic sides or bottom, so water would be leaked out on any surface it was placed. I know this steamer is inexpensive, but I expected it to last longer than a few months.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for an emergency, April 21, 2008
Is a great iron for an emergency, if you need to iron a shirt and a pant to go out. Not good for a lots of clothes because you have to add water each 10 minutes and wait around 5 minutes more.

I too don't understand the negative feedback. This is a great little steamer. Come on what do you expect from a small steamer, hours of use?? It works great and I was done one shirt in a few minutes. And big deal if I have to wait five minutes in between uses. I think some people expect this product to act like a larger size steamer, which is unrealistic.

5.0 out of 5 stars I would buy this again, April 22, 2010

There have been mixed reviews about this steamer, but I love it! I have tried other styles of steamers but none have worked as well as this one. I have never been interested in the huge commercial steamers with the hose and all, so I have been trying out different types to find one that works well for me.

I used this initially on two dresses, one was silk, the other was chiffon, it took out the wrinkles quickly and easily (literally 3-5 minutes on each garment). I then moved on to my bedroom curtains and had the same result. All with half the water left in the reserve tank. I think it was powerful but gentle on fabric. I would recommend it to any single person who likes to wear an item a few times between dry cleaning trips...I also think it will be great to take on trips because of the compact size. Its easier than ironing, but won't be perfect for everything.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Steamer!, July 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am a collegebound student and I decided that it would be easier to have a steamer whether than a iron and board. The first steamer I bought was the steam buddy (Steam Buddy Handheld Steamer) and it was awful, then I searched for a steamer with good reviews, and a affordable price. Then I came across this little jewel, I was a little skeptical at first buying it, but then I decided to get it, it was one of the best decisions I made! The steam is continuous so you don't have to press a button for the steam to come out, and the wrinkles actually come out! I tried it out on cargo pants and it worked like a charm! I hope to have this all four years of college.

1.0 out of 5 stars Water spits out of this like a roman candle, December 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Steam Fast SF-435 Compact Fabric Steamers (Kitchen)
I was excited about getting this and it worked great the first couple of times, but the water runs out really fast and you have to wait 5 mins between refills which is a pain. Also I did exactly as the instructions said using the correct water, filling it to the fill line and at times water spit out of it like a roman candle. We even tried turning it off for an hour, filling it below the fill line etc.. and it still spilled water out. It comes with two attachements that are supposed to help with spitting but the water just dribbles out and that water is HOT! I burned myself twice. I would not suggest this to anyone. The sad thing is I did alot of research on these and I thought this one was the winner now I don't know what to beleive by reading all these reviews it seems like some work and some don't. I will be returning mine and trying another one.

5.0 out of 5 stars comparing Steamfast with Conair, September 23, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I originally purchased the Steamfast SF-435W travel steamer and found it very powerful, easy to use, and handy for straightening clothes and enhancing the curls in my hair. (This was discovered by accident as ringlets formed while I steamed my clothes. You have to be careful around the skin and eyes, but I highly recommend this steamer for curls as well as clothes.) The Steamfast is a terrific steamer and I now keep it in my bathroom for daily use.

Since we are traveling to Europe soon and the Steamfast does not support 220V, I purchased the Conair GS-1 travel steamer (the green and white one) as a substitute. The Conair heats up nearly as quickly as the Steamfast but does not have the directed force of steam that the Streamfast has. Steam just sort of comes out of the Conair. This is likely due to the 800W vs 400W advantage that the Steamfast has over the Conair. Also, the Conair seems flimsy in comparison. For example, the water access on the Conair involves twisting the entire top half off of the unit. If it ever breaks, you can throw the Conair away. The Steamfast has a black cap to the water area and you simply remove the cap (which I imagine could be replaced if needed, though not likely.) It also seems that hot water could spill out of the Conair, whereas the Steamfast has the upwardly angled steam spout, making accidental spillage less likely.

If you are comparing the Steamfast to the Conair, I would definitely recommend the Steamfast as superior.
