The Norfolk and Western Railway was the last American railroad to abandon steam and convert to diesel. During the mid-1950s, O. Winston Link (1914-2001) created a photographic legacy of this period of American rail history which remains unrivaled.

This calendar continues in the trend of the past few years. Popular photos include the Seven-Mile Ford and the Roanoke turntable. These high-quality black and white photos will later be framed for permanent display. This item is similar in appearance and quality to the 2009 and 2010 calendars.

I've bought this calendar as a Christmas gift for an O. Winston Link/train enthusiast every year for the past 4 years or so. I don't think there's ever been a repeat usage of a photo in any of the calendar years. Mr. Link took a great many photos of the steam era and wonderful photos they are!

I absolutely love Winston Link photographs. I have tried other calendars with train photos - this one is the very best (my opinion of course). Other calendars lack the power and presence that Winston brings to the image. He has a great eye for what made steam engines so impressive. Viewing these photos remind us of what we have lost when we retired these fantastic machines.
