Book Description

SteamDrunks: 101 Steampunk Cocktails and Mixed Drinks gently escorts you through the treacherous waters of 19th century mixology.

You'll find authentic Victorian punch recipes that could be confused for farmer's cheese, tea recipes which will knock you out rather than wake you up, and downright chewable eggy cream curdles.

Along the way, you'll also find some shockingly tasty 19th century recipes made from all natural ingredients you already have at home.

Whether you're looking for a delicate cocktail to impress a fine corset clad lady or industrial quantities of affordable Victorian punch to serve the entire crew of your airship, you'll find the perfect Steampunk themed drink inside the pages of SteamDrunks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read! March 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I downloaded this book. I wasn't familiar with the whole Steampunk genre/subculture, and I thought this book might be just another cocktail book. Not at all!

This book was informative and, surprisingly, really, really funny. I'd have to say this is the funniest cookbook I've ever read. And I read it cover-to-cover in one sitting. The author has an informal writing style that makes this book anything but dry. It just oozes personality. Good job!

Last summer, I actually scoured the Internet looking for a recipe to make cherry-infused alcohol of some sort, since I have the harvest of 3 cherry trees to deal with annually. It was difficult to find good information on this subject in context. I made what I now know is Cherry Cordial, Cherry Bounce, and Cherry Brandy. They made great Christmas gifts, and after reading this book, I finally have some recipes on how to use them.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Resouce February 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
SteamDrunks is not my usual kind of book...non-fiction, alcohol-centric...but I gave the sample a try, liked what I read and bought the full download. In addition to classic, and when I say classic I mean Victorian age, cocktail recipes there's a lot of humor and history to be found in between the digital covers. One of my favorite lines from a recipe instructs the reader to "shake like you're imagining what lies above a lady's ankles". There are even recipes to make barrel sized quantities of drinks for a thirsty crew. While I only dabble in the steampunk culture, with a few twists and drink name changes these recipes could be pirated (arrr!) for a harder science fiction related party, or any kind of party really.

I guess this book fits into the glue gears on it and call it steampunk category. The author doesn’t bother to tell us WHAT a steampunk cocktail is? Read more
