5.0 out of 5 stars She's done it again!!!!
I fell in love with Christi's style when I saw her dragons...and I bought every book she had at the time, and have bought every book as she finishes them. Steampunkery is just as wonderful as her other...heck better since it's bigger! Her easy going teaching style, with loads of tips and laughs make just reading the book sheer joy. The projects are fantastic. This book...

2.0 out of 5 stars Whimsical? Yes. Fantasy? Yes. Steampunk? NO!
The essence of steampunk is a Victorian view of a mechanized future world, full of steam-driven mechanical devices and "scientific" instruments. This is an interesting book, full of whimsical and even fantastic creatures, but it's not really "Steampunk" (although I have to admit, the work has many interpretations). But making a lizard shape and gluing a gear onto it...

The projects are fantastic. This book is a great investment even if *gasp* you don't like Steampunk...the project in it could easily be made without the gears, and bit and bobs and they would turn out wonderfully!

5.0 out of 5 stars Steampunkery Fun!!!, January 27, 2010
This review is from: Steampunkery: Polymer Clay and Mixed Media Projects (Paperback)
I'm a big fan of Christi Friesen. When I decided to try my hand at polymer clay, it was her dragon book that I started with. Her books are so easy to follow. Even with me being a beginner, I felt like a pro when I was done. Her instructions are easy and fun. I ended up buying all her books but still the Dragons book was hands down my favorite. Then came along Steampunkery. It's chocked full of ideas, still has Christi's wit, and even displays other artists work. I had so much fun with this book. Her ideas are endless. I didn't know much about Steampunk until I saw it on her website. I immediately fell in love. Now I'm becoming a Steampunk fanatic. Even if you don't care for Steampunk, this book is full of ideas that you can makeshift into your own work of art. If you like Steampunk, Christi's other books or just having fun with polymer clay... I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely love Christi's books!!!!, January 22, 2010

This is the newest polymer clay book by Christi Friesen. It's a little different from the beyond series that she does, in that you use mixed media(for the steampunk parts). The projects are shown step by step and are easily doable. A few of my favorites are the dragonfly, chameleon, and the "sea-thru" pendant with the steampunk fish. There are about 9 projects in this book total, plus tips and ideas. and wit..don't forget wit! This book was just plain fun to look at. I have all of the author's books and i love every one of them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book - bad binding, November 19, 2010

This book has some pretty cool designs and seemingly easy tutorials to follow. There are step by step directions with very pretty image examples to view. I like that it also provides resources to find items that you may be searching for in the back of the book.

What I don't like is the binding, absolutely crappy. I purchased my book 6 months ago and have only looked through it a handful of times...half the book has come unglued and the pages have fallen out. I hope in the future the manufacturer will use a method to bind the book where it will stay a book...other than that, this book is pretty awesome to follow. I will still give it 5 stars since the binding has nothing to do with the author or tutorial, it's more so for you to be aware that you are buying a cheap book. Literally.

This is a great book and offers great ways to incorporate the Steampunk style into Polymer clay creations. All of Christie's books are great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steampunk polymer clay, October 20, 2010

Excellent author! This author has written several books on polymer clay crafting. Each is very well written with excellent photos and written instructions. Christi has a wicked sense of humor which helps make the projects even more fun. This little book took the mystery out of steampunk and kicked my creativity into high gear! The book may be small but it is crammed full of colorful illustrations, well-written instructions, and wicked humourous tidbits. I have three of Christi's books so far and am axiously awaiting her newest one.

This review is from: Steampunkery: Polymer Clay and Mixed Media Projects (Paperback)
If you are new to Polymer Clay or an experienced clayer...you will love this book. Christi's method of teaching is relaxed, creative and a whole lot of fun! So, buy the book (you might want to get some chocolates too....it really helps with the inspiration part of claying!!)...you will love it as much as I do.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent ideas, wish it was spiral bound, March 30, 2011

When I first got this book i must have flipped through it 20 times, each time seeing something new or a little tip here and there tucked among the impressively designed pages. I was, however, a little disappointed by how small the book was. The pages are very short and you really have to crank the book open to read all the information near the binding. I'm assuming that's where everyone is having the binding problem. I like the book enough to put some effort into converting it to a spiral bound or 3 hole punch folder. I haven't tried any of the projects yet, but I bet it will be a pain to keep the book open on the right page without placing a brick on the book or something crazy to keep it still lol.

Anyway, the writing is excellent and very interesting. Lots of cute humor scattered throughout the directions keep it fun and light reading. Great color pictures and directions for mixing colors and materials. Overall very informative book, great eye candy with a perfect mix of projects and inspirational guest artist highlights. I'm very happy to add it to my Polymer Clay library!
