There is way more info in these books than you actually need to know for the test. If you can master what is in these books you will pass the GED on the first try with no problems.
The writing test is given in two portions. Part I is a multiple choice test covering basic writing areas (punctuation, grammar, spelling, parts of speech, subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, etc.). That's the test where this book is terrific. Part II of the writing test is a forty-five minute, 250 word essay. The essay is graded from a one to a four and the two scores are combined using a formula to give you one writing score. The way I moved guys through was to focus on Part I of the test and shoot for a 2 on the essay which is a passing score. It's fairly easy to write a 2 on the essay. I could prep most guys for that in a day once I had already taught them the skills they'd need for Part I of the test. This book also has sections between the chapters about the essay. Those are plenty to pass the essay. This book is really the only one you need to pass both parts of the writing test. It has worked great!
If you work every page of this book from cover to cover and use it the way it was designed, you will get a good score on Part I of your GED writing test and pass the essay. It covers everything you'll need to know. The lessons are well structured and thorough. They cover all of the important skills you need. Follow all the directions including the extra exercises between the chapters and timing yourself on the ten minute mini-tests. That helps with your timing. Then make sure you can write a decent, five paragraph essay, and you will pass writing.
