ONE OF THE BEST PHOTO-BOOKS OF FIRE ARMS ENGRAVING,
By A Customer
This review is from: Steel Canvas: The Art of American Arms (Hardcover)
Having been a serrious engraver for just over a year now, I have amassed several books on engraving: mainly the "standards" for engravers: several of the Dover series of patterns, James L. Meek, Nimschke, etc. This has some of the finest and sharpest photos of engraving I have seen. And this book is cheap compaired to many of the others. Just plain beautiful. And --- worth every penny

I just got this book today and quickly looked through each page looking at the photos. I have to say this books looks amazing! The photos are very sharp and well done. So many beautiful engraved firearms!
Since I haven't read the text yet, I can't review that yet, but if it's even half as good as the photos, then this will be a very enjoyable book.

This is the second copy of this book I have purchased. This one for a young artist who is confused about his future, but who has great talent and especially with engraving. So I bought this one to try and encourage him towards a career. He and his folks are not gun people, so he is fairly ignorant of gun engraving. This is a wonderful resource for observing "steel canvas" and the very intricate work by various artist of bygone eras as well as contemporary!

While done very well, like many other of his books, more about firearms few can afford to own. More for the collector of high-end guns.
