5.0 out of 5 stars great new book on ww2 tank warfare, August 17, 2008

(REAL NAME)
There has been stacks of books written about tanks and tank warfare - they have bought back the glamour of the knight-in-armour who dominated the battlefield with firepower, mobility and protection all rolled up in one package. Despite the number of books on the subject I thought this was a very readable and worthwhile new addition. The text is supported by numerous maps and photos of the various important tanks and campaigns. It traces the evolution of the tank from its first world war origins thru to ww2 were superior german doctrine and tactics made up for the mediocre technical performance of many of their tanks. A great read with good chapters on the polish/french blitzkriegs, the desert campaign against the british and the mother of all battles against the russians. There is also a good analysis of the development of modern tank theory (largely by the british between the wars but only acted upon by the germans until everyone started playing catch-up!).

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent little book on the origins and use of the Panzer, March 26, 2008
This is one of the better WWII books from prolific author Nigel Cawthorne
It describes how the Germans used the Panzer - or Tank - to revolutionize modern warfare. Cawthorne delves back into the origins of the tank first used by the British in WWI and explores how the theories of armoured warfare were developed and employed by the Germans.
