Just Perfect!, June 2, 2005
This review is from: Steel Guitar Hawaiian Style (Audio CD)
I wore out two copies of the vinyl before this CD came out. It isn't often acknowledged, but I think that this is actually Byrd's best. It was recorded after he moved to Hawaii, with Hawaiian sidemen. JB plays a variety of Hawaiian guitars including his gorgeous double neck Sho-Bud, a "frypan" lap steel and a resonator acoustic. The music is so authenticly beautiful that it might bring tears to your eyes. His rendition of "Sand" is permanently etched on my brain - perfection!
I've heard most of the steel guitar albums out there, and this one is in my top 3, along with Buddy Emmons' black album and Lloyd Green's "Revisited". It doesn't get any better than this in my opinion.
