Book Description

June 10, 1987 084880368X 978-0848803681
Here, in a magnificent photographic essay, is the complete story of one of America's oldest and most unusual railroads, whose operations once included far-flung steamboat and ferry, as well as trolley services, and whose roadbed runs from the black tubes under the East River to the sandy wilderness of Montauk, NY. The Long Island Rail Road hauls more commuters than any other system in the US.

5.0 out of 5 stars Railfan, March 15, 2011
This review is from: Steel Rails to the Sunrise: The Long Island Railroad (Hardcover)
I have loved this book since I first read it, years ago. Unfortunately it was one of a few books that "disappeared" twenty-seven years ago. As a native Long Islander of eleven generations, the Long Island Railroad was almost as much a part of my life as breathing. This book gives a very clear history, complete with pictures, of the L.I.R.R., and I am glad to welcome it back to my library.

1.0 out of 5 stars Never received item, September 7, 2009

After waiting for the estimated delivery date to pass without receipt of the item I ordered, I contacted the seller who e-mailed me back that the item was at my local post office due to some kind of postal issue. I went to my local post office and was told that they had no idea about any postal issues that would keep the item from being delivered to my address. I haven't pursued it any further. I haven't the time or energy to do so. I haven't ordered anything else from that particular seller since and won't be doing so in the future.

Let's chalk this one up to a lesson learned.
