4.0 out of 5 stars Does What It Says
This is actually a pretty handy little tool for any Dungeonmaster. The strength of each magnet is low enough that they slide around the board easily without falling off at every bump or tap. Writing on the board and magnets is quite easy as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Combat Pad
I love having this for running campaigns with larger groups or encounters with larger numbers of monsters, but I don't know that I would buy it again. When I received it in the mail and opened it up, one of the corners was somewhat squished, and the product itself is fairly flimsy. I would have expected it to have a hard plastic or metal backing, but it is instead just a...

This is actually a pretty handy little tool for any Dungeonmaster. The strength of each magnet is low enough that they slide around the board easily without falling off at every bump or tap. Writing on the board and magnets is quite easy as well.

The metal that is wedged between the cardboard sheets is sturdy and runs nearly edge-to-edge for maximum usability even with magnets that don't come in the original package (I added Fridge-Pins - Translucent Colors).

This tool was originally designed for D&D 3.5, but it works just fine with 4e as well. The only downside is some wasted space (at the edges and top) that could be better used for more notes or longer lists and, you will end up losing the smaller magnets sooner or later so you could end up buying the additional magnets later (not sold at Amazon!).

I love having this for running campaigns with larger groups or encounters with larger numbers of monsters, but I don't know that I would buy it again. When I received it in the mail and opened it up, one of the corners was somewhat squished, and the product itself is fairly flimsy. I would have expected it to have a hard plastic or metal backing, but it is instead just a magnet pad reinforced with multible layers of thin and flimsy card-stock type material. It's a useful tool for GMing a game, but much more fragile than I would prefer considering the $20+ cost.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but don't use sharpies., January 22, 2012

Despite the product claim that you can use any marker even permanent markers, if you use a sharpie be prepared to scrub that off with a lot of elbow grease. It took soap, water, a brillo pad, and a lot of scrubbing to get this clean again. I had to scrub so hard the surface was ruined on the smaller pre-cut pieces. Otherwise use a simple marker and it is a very useful game accessory.

4.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat delicate magnets speed lengthy combats, April 14, 2012
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Combat Pad (Toy)
This product is a great idea and can shave valuable minutes off of any roleplaying game combat sequence. The addition of the GameMastery Combat Pad Extra Magnet Booster Pack increases the utility by allowing you to prepare magnets in advance and just slap them on the board when the time comes.

I recently also purchased a Quartet Tabletop Instant Easel, 14 Inches High, Steel, Black (28E) for this product so that everyone at the table can easily see whose turn it is -- no more questions!

My only complaint is that none of the magnets are particularly strong, and the small ones are susceptible to falling off the board with only slight provocation. Still, in a product designed for speed, I suppose it is better than having to waste time picking at a magnet that won't release its grip.

This is a very convenient product for GMs. I think it isn't absolutely necessary, but it sure makes things easier. The only caveat is that fine tip dry erase pens are almost as expensive as this game aid.
