5.0 out of 5 stars Too great to ignore. Believe me, I tried.
I first heard of this band in a one-line side note on the fun. release, Aim & Ignite (one of the best albums of 2009, in my opinion) and made a mental note to check them out later. Didn't do it. My mistake. Strike 1.

Next thing I know, they're opening for Tegan & Sara--a tour I was pretty keen on seeing. I listened to their earlier albums, wasn't digging 'em,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Teeny Bopper Mish Mash
It's kind of like jumping off a cliff and hoping the music ends soon. Like most of the bouncy stuff with terrible sounding singers that are in junior high school and their voices are just starting to change but still have a bit of falsetto gunk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too great to ignore. Believe me, I tried., October 25, 2010
This review is from: Steel Train (Amazon MP3 Exclusive Version) (MP3 Download)
I first heard of this band in a one-line side note on the fun. release, Aim & Ignite (one of the best albums of 2009, in my opinion) and made a mental note to check them out later. Didn't do it. My mistake. Strike 1.

Next thing I know, they're opening for Tegan & Sara--a tour I was pretty keen on seeing. I listened to their earlier albums, wasn't digging 'em, went to the show and basically ignored their set for an extended bathroom & beer break. To quote Stephanie Tanner, "How rude!" Strike 2.

Then this album dropped. I wasn't planning on buying it. I almost didn't, but the idea of the all-female cover companion record was so intriguing I couldn't resist. Curiosity got the better of me. Turned out Bullet was a catchy little number, but it was Turnpike Ghost that really caught my ear... for a hot second. I never made it past track two and forgot about listening to the rest. That's just blatant ignorance. That's a called 3rd strike.

Now I'm not sure what happened next, but all I know is I can't stop listening to this, and I feel like a complete bonehead for trying so hard to ignore what turned out to be an excellent pop record!

In my experience, the defining factor that separates great albums from decent ones is that my "favorite track" changes too many times to count. This fits the bill; every track is a new earworm. Bullet became Turnpike Ghost, which led to Touch Me Bad, S.O.G. Burning in Hell, You Are Dangerous, and now Children of the 90's. Each song is full of catchy riffs, intelligent harmonies, and sing-along choruses. It's like adult Radio Disney for the inner child.

I just went to another show they played two days ago and this time I snagged a spot in the front and sang along. It took me long enough, but I learned my lesson. For the love of God, please learn from my mistakes!

I can't say more nice things about this band and their recorded music. I found them by chance when they openen for someone else and yes openers are worth the trouble when they turn out to be this good. Run don't walk to buy this release and all their previous material and enjoy the heck out of a great power pop rock band. Seriously what are you waiting for?

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Album by an amazing band, November 2, 2011
This review is from: Steel Train (Audio CD)
The album "Steel Train," was such a fantastic follow up to the album "Trampoline," I'm not sure if they'll ever be able to top this one.

This one starts out with the track "Bullet," which has this faint guitar sound and then it's there and you're jumping up and down and wanting to sing along at the top of your lungs. Trust me, I know. I've jumped around and sung along at the top of my lungs to this song more times than I can count.

This album is different then anything they've ever done, but it's still the same old Steel Train. It was on my top ten list of 2010 and it was truly a gorgeous piece of work.

The boys put a lot of hard work into this piece and as if Trampoline didn't remind you enough of the E-Street Band, then this one definitely will. It's amazing with tracks like "Touch Me Bad," "Children of the 90's," and "Fall Asleep."

Never mind the companion album, all of the tracks sung by females in the bands life, including the amazing Scarlet Johansson, Tegan and Sara, Greta Salpeter, and more. This is a beautiful piece of art and you should definitely hear it.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING, May 10, 2011

I have loved Steel train since I first seen them open for the format about five years ago. Their previous album Trampoline continues to be a regular in my car cd player, but this album trumps it. I love every single song on the new album! Its such a different sound compared to Trampoline, but in a good way. This CD gets me so effin excited! I can't wait to see them again this summer on tour. They put on an amazing live show too, by the way. If you have a chance to see them, do it! You will have a blast.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good music, just right for a mellow mood, March 1, 2011

I hadn't heard of Steel Train until I came upon them one day. I wanted a change in music and to expand my taste a little bit. So i decided to try listening to Steel Train. I absolutely liked "Bullet," and had a difficult time listening to the other songs because I liked that one too much (you know how that happens sometimes when you buy an album). But I am thrilled that I finally listened to the other songs, because they are so entertaining. They put me in a good mood. They kind of remind me of Sugarcult, except softer and not as loud. Songs I recommend are: Bullet (of course), You Are Dangerous, S.O.G Burning in Hell, Solider in the Army, and The Speedway Motor Racers Club. For the really mellow and soft songs, listen to You and I Undercover, and Fall Asleep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, November 3, 2010

Every so often I come across a CD where I enjoy all the tracks. Some CDs after the first listen, get tracks bumped down to least favorite or Do Not Play Again.

I have been pleased in that this CD; although I have favorites in it, has been a wonderful listen either from beginning to end, or shuffled.

If you like the sample clips, I suggest you buy the CD and dive into it's entirety.

This band is one of my favorite bands of today! And this album is my favorite, seconded by Trampoline. They are even better live than recorded which is rare these days. The energy is just incredible! I try to see them every time they're in New York. Buy this album! You won't be disappointed!!!

I compare the music, as a whole, to jumping from a cliff and realizing that you didn't need a chute after all, once you reach the cool blue water. Swim in it and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars GET THIS!, August 27, 2010
This review is from: Steel Train (Amazon MP3 Exclusive Version) (MP3 Download)
Steel Train is an amazing talented band, and this is their best piece of work yet. Get it, support them, and make sure to GO SEE THEM LIVE. Steel Train shows are an experience. These guys have been around a long time and put so much work into this album which they put out themselves, and the music is really great. Unique, fun, true, and deep. Impossible to not dance/sing along to. BUY IT!
