SteelSeries Sensei is the original mouse extraordinaire from SteelSeries. It's the worlds most customizable mouse and features its own 32bit ARM processor (which allows double the sensitivity, to 11,400 DCPI), and can be configured through a built-in LCD menu system on the back with support for up to 16.8 million colors.

SteelSeries Sensei [RAW] did away with processor, the LCD menu system and the on-board memory. If you don't travel around the world as a pro gamer, if you don't plug into tournament computers and if you don't need all the colors, the [RAW] will deliver the same world-class performance and same amazing customization options using the SteelSeries Engine. And Sensei [RAW] is available in 2 versions: one with rubberized soft-touch surface, one with smooth glossy surface--pick your favorite feel and start fragging.

Bow to the Master, Again

Since the release of their first mouse, SteelSeries has been using Japanese inspiration in the naming of them. SteelSeries mice are built for performance and tournament-style play; Ikari means anger, Xai means talent, and the list of product names goes on. The Sensei is the version of the grand-master in the SteelSeries dojo. It is the teacher. The Sensei [RAW] is that master in his pure and focused form. With tournament grade components and focused intent, the Sensei [RAW] is the essence of performance, delivering only what you need to eliminate your challengers.

Winning, It's the Way of the Sensei

The SteelSeries [RAW] is the purified form of the original SteelSeries Sensei. It is the essence of performance and embodies everything SteelSeries has learned about mice, everything ever researched, everything ever discovered, everything that makes a mouse great. The DNA of Sensei is programmed to win. These are those rare hardware products forged by love and science, trial and error, passion from professional gamers, and a desire to push the envelope. SteelSeries Sensei mice were born for tournament victory; they are built to help you win.

Advanced Macros

Thanks to the support of the SteelSeries Engine software, you can record even extremely long and advanced macros to the Sensei [RAW]. The macros can not only be layered and can include keystrokes and precise timing, but they can span across your peripherals allowing you to have a mouse button assigned to perform keyboard strokes and mouse clicks in the same macro. How you will decide to use this advanced feature is up to you (choose your configurations wisely and adhere to any rules that you may need to abide by during gameplay); the Sensei only presents you with the capabilities for endless possibilities.

Developed with the Best

SteelSeries is proud to be associated with some of the best players in the world of eSports. SteelSeries maintains strong relationships and has continuous dialogue with teams like SK Gaming, Fnatic, Evil Geniuses, Natus Vincere, and others who help in the development and improvement of gaming products.

To ensure maximum performance in all gaming scenarios, SteelSeries enlisted help from world-class StarCraft II, Counter-Strike, DotA, League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth, WarCraft III, and Doom players. Thanks to them, Sensei [RAW] has the same performance as the original Master--so if you like the Sensei these are the players who helped make it happen.

Plug, Play, Win

There’s no need to install software of any kind in order to use the Sensei [RAW]. It is completely capable of operating flawlessly with default settings. SteelSeries Engine enhances the Sensei [RAW] with advanced customization options like CPI settings, programmable buttons, LED intensity, and lighting modes. The Sensei [RAW] is supported by SteelSeries Engine technology, but will work out of the box with any computer or laptop.

Light 'Em Up

The brilliant white illumination is capable of several modes of operation including: solid, slow, medium, and fast pulse. You can also vary the intensity of the illumination between low, medium, and high. For those of you who don’t like glowing shiny stuff on your desktop, you can completely switch off all illumination.

It also brings a very real benefit to users who utilize multiple profiles: by giving them brightnesses, you can quickly switch between profiles and always know which profile is active.

First off, the mouse will work when plugged into a Mac - that is, buttons 1 through 5. Buttons 6 and 7 (the ones on the right side of the mouse) do not work right away. The mouse comes with an onboard profile that you can configure, but to do so, you must install the Steelseries Engine in Windows and configure your mouse from there. Once you've done that, buttons 6 and 7 will act as PageUp/PageDown REGARDLESS of what you may have set it to in Steelseries Engine. For some reason, those settings don't get saved in the profile. You can save everything else, DPI, luminosity, polling rate, but not buttons 6 and 7. Even in Windows, the buttons on the right will default to PageUp/PageDown if you turn off Steelseries Engine.

To actually customize buttons 6 and 7, you need to install ControllerMate [...] and override the button functions from within. Even then, ControllerMate sees buttons 6 and 7 as a keyboard, and so you can assign keyboard shortcuts to it for switching spaces for instance.

As for the mouse itself - the glossy exterior feels a bit slippery, but I'm used to it, coming from the Steelseries Kana and the Magic Mouse. The button clicks are nice and sturdy, however I find that I accidentally press the buttons on the right sometimes when moving the mouse or clicking the buttons on the left. The cord is made of braided fabric, and it's thick(!) and stiff. I find this a bit of a nuisance since it sometimes feels like the cord is fighting the movement of the mouse. The cord also seems to drag against the mousepad which causes a scratching sound. However, since the cord is so thick, you can actually adjust it so that it's raised up a little to reduce the drag on the mousepad.

Overall, 4/5 for a pretty good mouse.

To be honest, the look of this mouse was a big part of why I chose it. I had heard it was difficult to keep clean but I keep a glasses cleaning cloth on my desk for wiping dust off the monitor and it works well for cleaning the mouse and the plexiglass on the PC case.

The slick surface sticks to your palm just as well if not better than a rubber coated mouse. I've worn the rubber coating off of mice before. I won't have that problem with this mouse.

The lighting isn't distractingly bright and Steelseries' logo looks cool so I don't mind it glowing on my desk. It can be turned off or adjusted with software.

Lift detection is about 4-5 mm on my QcK mini. I haven't noticed positive acceleration. I've used it for about a month and I'm still amazed at how smoothly it slides across the mousepad.

There are only a few things I would consider "cons "about this mouse.
It's lightweight. This could be a plus for you though. The button area is such a low profile that my ring and pinky fingertips often drag on the pad. The buttons on the right take some getting used to. Most people will only use the two thumb buttons which are well placed, small enough that they don't affect your grip and require an ideal pressure to activate. The cable is sleeved with a sturdy and stylish charcoal/silver braided cloth. It's quite rigid so there's noticeable resistance when the cord bumps into a speaker or something on your desk.

When you take it out of the box take a few minutes to unbend all of the kinks in the cable. It will look nicer on your desk and it'll be less prone to getting tangled.

I replaced my old Microsoft Sidewinder - a mouse I still own and like quite a bit - with this one and am very pleased so far. It's far more responsive than my Sidewinder (not the fault of the Sidewinder, it's like 7 years old). For just surfing the web, paying bills, ect. it's just a mouse...a very good looking mouse, but just a mouse. For games, though, the high CPI and super-slick pads really do make a difference. It rocks for SC2.

As I said above, I really like the look of this mouse. For me, the more flashy gaming mice - the Razers, the R.A.T., the Corsair, and the Logitechs - are just plain ugly. I have friends who use them and I know they're quality mice, but what put the Sensei [RAW] over the top in my eyes was its classy, minimalist design. The glossy black matches my setup, and the glowing logo is really sharp with it's pixel-style graphic and crisp white lighting.

The software - the SteelSeries Engine - is easy to work with and does what it's supposed to.

A nice looking and excellent performing mouse.

I'm not a big gamer, so I can't speak for this mouse's performance under pressure. However, I do like the way it lightly glides and crisply clicks. I originally had the one that's supposed to minimize sweat, but returned it for the glossy model (the surface of the first one reminded me of a chalkboard...sweat from hours of use isn't a concern for me). The low-key design is also a plus for me. Works fine with my Mac, too.

One feature I've had trouble with is the button on the right side of the mouse body. It seems to be a "page up" button that takes you toward the top of a web page (like the space bar moves you down). Not sure if you can turn this off, but I have pressed it by accident a few times. But at the end of the day, it's still pretty ninja.
