If you are a serious gamer, then you value having dedicated gaming-only headphones at your disposal. The SteelSeries Siberia headset is one of the better headsets in that category that I've tested. I would strongly recommend them to all but the most discerning gamer/audiophiles. They were pretty impressive in almost every category that I could think of.

**** Fit and Comfort ****

The headphones are fairly large and will fit most ear sizes. They are very soft and comfortable, and they will not start hurting your ears after several hours worth of use. They will also keep their shape, which is a good thing and something that is not a given for all other headphones that I've used over the years. The only discomfort that you may experience will be due to the heating of your ears. This may not be a problem if you live in a fairly cold place to begin with, but in the summer this could become an issue.

**** Design ****

The headphones look very modern and stylish. The blue color is quite noticeable, and it distinguishes these headphones from the regular audio headphones without making them look dorky.

**** Microphone ****

The retractable microphone is a very clever design feature. When fully tucked in the microphone is almost completely invisible, which is a great thing when you are either playing a video game on your own, or are in mood for music. Microphone's flexible handle also insures that you can position it to precisely suit your needs.

**** Sound Quality ****

The sound coming out of these headphones is very impressive, although not quite at the level of dedicated stand-alone audio-only headphones.... Nonetheless, I've been using these headphones with my iPhone and overall I am pretty happy with the kind of audio experience that they provide.

**** Noise Cancellation ****

These headphones use the passive noise-cancelling technology, which means that they solely rely on their shape and build to prevent outside noise from reaching you. The passive noise cancellation is not nearly as effective as the active kind, but for the purposes of these headphones that might be a good thing. This is because in my experience the active noise cancelling headphones also cancel your own voice to some extent, which makes talking extremely weird. So for the gaming headphones you would probably want to be able to hear yourself as clearly as possible.

I was expecting a good headset when I bought these. What I was not expecting was to fall in love.

Pros:
Its fits perfectly and the unique design completely removes any pressure from the ears/head.
Sound is amazing
looks cool on your head

Cons:
Does not say I love you back when I got to bed
Apparently it is not legal to marry these headphones in the state of Arizona.
Taking these headphones out for a romantic evening will get you laughed at.
Does not make you run faster
Could not be used as a weapon in the zombie apocalypse.

Steelseries makes many excellent products, this being one as well, but there is one key area this headset fails to deliver and unfortunately that is in quality of audio. If you're looking for the two in one combo (headphones and built-in microphone) then at this price range the Siberia V2 is highly recommended but if you can live with headphones and a clip-on mic the Audio Technica AD700 & Zalman Clip-On Mic is a vastly superior combination.

Steelseries Sibera V2 Pros:
Extremely comfortable.
Very well built.
High quality microphone.
One of the most comfortable headsets that will fit any sized head.
A very adequate cable length (minus the included extended cable.)
An easy to reach and unobtrusive volume and microphone control device.
Excellent for hip-hop and dubstep.

Steelseries Sibera V2 Cons:
Average quality highs. (Sound)
Below average quality mids. (Sound)
Above Average quality lows. (Sound)
Poor soundstage.
Not very good at all for gaming due to overall sound, particularly in FPS's.

To put it simply the Siberia V2s just aren't very loud when it comes to anything other than bass. Bass drowns out vital in-game sounds, especially in first person shooters. Those explosions sound so cool! Too bad I couldn't hear the guy sneaking up behind me nor what direction he came from.

Superior options at a cheaper price.
Icemat Siberia Headset (clip-on microphone included). Steelseries bought Icemat, their current headset design is based off Icemat. $30 on EBay.
JVC HARX700 headphones (no mic) $40 on Amazon. Zalman Clip-On Mic $7.90 (free shipping) Amazon seller....
Steelseries Siberia Headset (V1, identical to Icemat Headset with clip-on microphone but it has the Steelseries box and logo on the headband) $70 on Amazon.

The best option.
Audio Technica AD700.
In terms of design, comfortable level, soundstage, highs, mids, lows, and usefulness in games the AD700s are unbeatable at this price range. They fluctuate between $89-$98 on Amazon and the Zalman Clip-On Mic is $7.90 flat. If you have a small head the rubber band mod will set you right and after 100 hours of burn-in, which is when you'll get 100% of the audio quality for these headphones you'll never want another pair. This is the second SteelSeries headset I've owned and, much like the last set, the Siberia v2 are fantastic. This is one of the most comfortable headsets I've ever worn. Unlike other brands, it doesn't actually have a way to adjust the size to fit your head; rather, it has a unique band that adjusts to your head whenever you put it on. Combined with the soft foam padding around the ears makes it easy to wear for several hours at a time. The sound quality is excellent; It's about what you would expect from headphones in this price range. The microphone is crisp and clear and comes across with no background noise. The extremely long cable is a nice touch as well.

I bought this headset to primarily to be used with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11. It works great with the program when combined with an Audio to USB adapter (Dragon works better with USB connected headsets).

I researched several gaming headsets before making this purchase. My first priority was comfort. This is by far the most comfortable gaming headset I have ever owned. The suspended headband makes this headset virtually weightless. I wear glasses and it does not put pressure on my ears. The over-ear cups are the perfect size to surround my ears without even touching them.

I like the disappearing microphone. It's practically infinitely adjustable. I am impressed by the technology. I had suspected that the microphone would be prone to break since it coils up inside the ear-cup to disappear. But, the microphone is reliable and works every time! The quality of the microphone input is exceptional. It works flawlessly with my voice recognition program. I have not tried this microphone with Skype, Ventrilo, or Teamspeak. But, I am confident that this microphone will work great with all of these programs.

I would not recommend this headset to an audiophile. The sound quality is great, but not my top choice for listening to music. The sound system is great for every day use. I mainly listen to techno and trance music, so I was disappointed with the bass response. Since I wasn't too concerned with sound quality when selecting a headset, this headset suits my needs perfectly.

The value of this headset is outstanding. I turned down much more expensive headsets for this one simply because it seemed to be an overall better product.

I am a gamer, and I would recommend this headset to gamers.... I also recommend this headset for use with voice recognition software and chatting programs. This is one sexy headset, especially in red. ;) Read more ›
