The Beginning of a Wireless Gaming Revolution

The Stratus is a premium, Bluetooth gaming controller geared towards the gamer seeking superior performance in a portable design. With the introduction of Apple’s iOS 7, developers can now code incredible games for iOS devices with classic console control schemes we have used for decades. Stratus takes advantage of this breakthrough like no other controller on the market, joining Apple in bringing the revolution to light.

Compatible Apple Devices (Requires iOS 7)

iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPad mini, iPad Air, iPad 4th Generation, iPod touch (5th Generation)

Portability and Playability

The Stratus requires iOS 7 to work with iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad 4th Generation, iPod touch (5th Generation), and iPhone 5. Bluetooth 2.1 makes connecting to the Stratus Wireless controller a snap and also provides extended battery life. Play for 10 hours and recharge with the included USB charger.

Intuitive Controls

The familiar feel of the Stratus helps make the transition to mobile gaming seamless. The face buttons (4), shoulder buttons (4), analog sticks (2), and D-pad were all designed to provide that console-like vibe.

Precision

To truly emulate that console feel, the SteelSeries Stratus is engineered with pressure sensitive buttons for the ultimate in analog control. The shoulder buttons, face buttons and the D-pad all feature pressure sensitivity making them as precise as possible depending how much force is applied.

Real Gaming Experience

Great hardware will only take you so far without quality games to use it with. Thankfully, there are plenty of titles in the App Store that already support the Stratus Wireless and hundreds more on the way. From big-name blockbuster franchises like Grand Theft Auto, down to the newest indie games, the development world is all over this expanding market.

Design and Shape

The Stratus features a contemporary style to fit right in with the rest of your Apple devices. It's small enough to be portable, but large enough to easily hold and maneuver. Every Stratus gaming controller includes a cover which can be attached to the rear of the device which also functions as an added grip. White or black; the choice is yours.

Multiplayer Gameplay

With the Stratus Wireless controller, gaming on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch doesn't have to be a solo experience. In supported titles, up to four players can game on one screen. LED lighting on the top of the controller indicates player number to easily keep tabs on whose turn it is.

Customer Reviews

I have no complaints at all about this controller.

I could just return it and get a refund, but I figured to just get a replacement since I'm already hooked on using a controller on the iPad.

This is a great MFi gaming controller for iOS 7 devices.

I am revising my review and rating this much higher now that a button delay issue has been addressed by Steelseries. The fix came in the form of a firmware update that can be downloaded from their site. More than likely all new units shipped will have this firmware installed but you'll want to make sure yours is up-to-date.

It's nice to see an iOS 7 compatible game controller that interfaces via Bluetooth as many others are designed only to plug into an iPhone 5 or 5s. So I was excited to try out the Steelseries Stratus especially because I really like their other controller called the SteelSeries Free.

The Free is compatible with the standard Bluetooth game controller format as well as iCade, but not with the new iOS 7 standard. The Stratus does work with iOS 7 but doesn't support the standards the Free supports.

The Stratus is very small, so large hands might have a problem with it. The buttons, however, are well spaced and the controller is quite comfortable to play with despite its small size.

My recommendation? If the size of the Stratus isn't an issue this is a great iOS controller that works across all iOS 7 devices. It's not inexpensive, however, so you may want to wait a bit for more choices to enter the marketplace which will eventually bring prices down.

I'm a big gamer on both the PC and console units so I know a little bit about game controllers.

The SteelSeries Stratus Wireless Gaming Controller for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch certainly LOOKS like a standard multi-functional controller and there are a lot of things to like here.
1) Typical to -It has A/B/X/Y buttons, two thumb joysticks, and directional pad, four trigger buttons (R1/R2/L1/L2) on the front of the controller, as well as pause and power buttons. The buttons all push down very easily and firmly and I like that the four shoulder buttons are textured so that your fingers don't slip and are sensitive enough that you can easily play games with out being so overly sensitive that a finger twitch makes you jump off a cliff or something. Although the controller is pretty small, it fits easily in the palm of my hand, it isn't overly small (and I have long fingers). Finally SteelSeries gives you a very nice smoked-plastic hard cover to protext the buttons on the joystick while its stowed away in a drawer or your backpack.

Syncing the unit was very easy. Simply go into the Bluetooth section of your iPad/iPod/iPhone menu, turn the Stratus Gaming Controller on and push the sync button on the back and it will show up on the wireless equipment menu for you to turn on. Charging is also very easy as it has a micro-USB port on the bottom of the controller and the unit has four LED lights showing its charge. I fully charged the unit and then played games for an hour and it still showed 4 lights. As far as games that are supported by the Stratus Wireless Gaming Controller, I count about 150 apps inclusing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, The Walking Dead, Sonic, Pacman (and other classic Namco games), Call of Duty, C.H.A.O.S, Galaxy on Fire 2, and other.

Color Name: Black Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I got a lot of flack for my early review of the SteelSeries Free controller, which was the first generation of this controller. While the Free had many good qualities, it wasn't supported by most of the big name popular games that I liked to play, and it was pretty much blacklisted from anything Gameloft which included the bulk of my favorite games. The Stratus is all new with numerous improvements, but most importantly, it supports some of the very best games on the market today. Where I struggled to find a handful of games that would justify the hefty price tag of the Free, I was immediately stocked up on dozens of compatible games with the Stratus, including Final Fantasy 3, Oceanhorn, Ravensword 2, Terraria, Bard's Tale, Dungeon Hunter 4, Muffin Knight, Shantae, Real Racing 3, Asphalt 8, Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed, just to name a few of my favorites. And I already owned all of these! For those interested, I'll add more to this list at the bottom of my review so you can get more of an idea of what kinds of games with work with the Stratus right out of the box. This list is guaranteed to expand as more and more games are adding MFI controller support all the time and it's absolutely the future direction of iOS controller gaming, meaning more games will surely be made with native support in the months and years to come.

The first time I was allowed to try this out (after my kids hijacked it for several hours to play their favorites) I hopped in the backseat and put my iPad Air in the mount in front of me. I pulled out my controller and in seconds I was playing Oceanhorn, running around killing baddies and completing quests. I can't express how much fun this is.

It works perfect with iPhone, witch is why I bought it. It connects via blue tooth and there's no need for calibration, it is small but I had no problems using it.
