Difficult to use,

It is very difficult to properly align chisels in this guide. The design of the guide causes unequal contact to each side of the chisel, which results in inproper horizontal alignment. I plan on spending a little more money and getting a better designed guide. The guide does work better with plane irons, since they're mounted in a different part of the guide.

- Yes, it is not the perfect tool, but for someone who is looking for a relatively repeatable bevel for a decent price, this is the tool.- I just purchased it, and used it to sharpen three of my chisels, 1", 3/4", & 1/2". I tryed it on my 1/4", but could not fit it in to get the 25 degree bevel. That's OK, the 1/4" is small enough to do without a guide anyway. - Putting the chisel in the clamp and aligning it takes a few trys. You need to measure the amount of the blade extending from the end of the tool, and there is a little slop right and left that needs to be fine tuned when you clamp it. Once clampped, it's rock solid in the tool, and it will not move when honing. I had a little concern when I first saw the tool that the wheel bearing that glides across the stone surface would not be stable enough, (it only measures 7/16" across) but found the tool to be very steady on the stone. - The quality of the tool is not the best, but it is all metal, and if the body castings were made with just a little more precision, the tool would be on top of the chart. As is, the minor adjustments that need to be made when installing the chisel are inconvenient, but certainly not out of place for a tool that cost less than $10. I have not seen anything that compares at any price. If someone finds something, please let me know. Maybe there is some secret that no one has let me in on.

This thing doesn't works. I agree with the previous revision. Is practically imposible to align chisels under 1 1/2" perdendicular to stone.

I just received mine today from another vendor and it is going back tomorrow.Chisels will not align properly. The tiny hex head screw that hold the tightenign knob on the screw is stripped. It's junk.

I've used it to sharpen a couple of chisels and a small plane iron and it does a credible job. If you're an occasional wood worker this should suffice otherwise pay the extra for a professional unit.
