5.0 out of 5 stars Low Cost, Only good for light use with a Good Case
Others didn't like these, and yes they are inexpensive bits. Overall cost to benefit ratio of these bits is very high, just don't expect too much for 50 cents a bit.
You shouldn't try and do a lot of machining and difficult to machine materials. I have a CNC machine with many high quality, custom tools, but I found this a useful, cost effective addition to the set...

3.0 out of 5 stars Eh?
If your buying this for big tough projects this isnt the set you want. Its more of a household set for household projects. I used this set to modify my quad trailor and all the big bits either got dull after one use or they chipped and as far as the small ones go there alright but brake quite fast.

Others didn't like these, and yes they are inexpensive bits. Overall cost to benefit ratio of these bits is very high, just don't expect too much for 50 cents a bit.
You shouldn't try and do a lot of machining and difficult to machine materials. I have a CNC machine with many high quality, custom tools, but I found this a useful, cost effective addition to the set for light work with plastic, aluminum and easy to machine steels. Also, I have a bit sharpener, which also makes these more useful to me than other people. You can't expect these to stay sharp without proper maintenance. Having paid as much as 40 dollars a bit for mid grade quality tooling, you shouldn't expect to be able to drill 1000 holes with the same bit from this set without ever sharpening.

PROs:
The bits are good for the price.
I have owned many sets like this, but this is the first one where the case was properly made by the chinese to fit the bits so they don't fall out. Every bits stays in its place when you open it, which was the biggest improvement over many other 115 bit sets I have owned in my days.
Cons:
Not recommended for heavy users, but great for having around in the shop for general purpose, light use.
I'm not surprised if you happen to get 1 bit that is the wrong size, as someone complained about. The guy in china just put the wrong one in.
Honestly, if you want a specific size for high use applications, you should go to a real tooling vendor or at least buy a bunch of the same.

1.0 out of 5 stars garbage, September 24, 2010

not that i didn't realize automatically the severe poor quality right away from the external glance of this piece of junk, but when i opened it I had a quick laugh, and then realized I had to go thru a refund process! This is at the extreme bottom of the rung junk, if I could give it zero stars I would. Here's my beefs
[1.]the package was open before i received it (not the amazon box) the box containing the index box... it gets better [2.] the index box itself was busted, none of the individual sections were functioning at all, jammed up (supposed to open left and right) uh uh didn't happen cause they are held together by tiny screws and nuts, binded up and didn't extend 1/3 of the distance they should, just garbage. [3.] the latch didn't line up to lock the box.[4.] and most importantly, remember I said the box was open before I received it... well explain this one - 115 drill bits- right- i found two (v) drill bits in the box--> one in the "V" slot and one in the "Z" slot- how did that happen?
NO Z!!!!!!!!!!! Bottom Line - cut your own throat by getting this piece of junk! for $65 it should be at least half decent, drill ONE hole, didn't get that far! What a joke!

2.0 out of 5 stars Barely acceptable set, December 16, 2011
This review is from: Steelex Plus D1138 115 Piece HSS Tin Drill Bit Set in Index (Tools & Home Improvement)
This set is a good starter set for an occasional user who might need every possible drill size. It is a good value for that purpose.

However, for any regular use, there are serious problems with this set:
The smaller bits (below about 3/16" or .187) are very easily broken. The product description claims they are high-speed, strong, and durable. They are none of these things. The larger bits dull easily. Some of the small bits (numbered above 40) are duplicated drill sizes in slightly different lengths.

The case is tough and durable, but is not easily used. The small bits in the back (the numbered bits) are difficult to get out of the holder. It requires two hands, which is often a problem during project. The tray for the numbered bits does not fold open but can be pulled forward about an eighth of an inch to remove or replace the bits.

Bought these drills trying to drill through "soft metal" as stated on the box. went through 3 drills trying to make one hole. In my opinion these drills are soft metal themselfs. If you want quallity bits buy a differant set. If your going to use them for wood than give them a try.

Just plan poor quality. I opened the box and drill bits were all over the place. The case broke 10 min after I opened it. The drill were bits sharpened incorrectly.

Comes in a cardboard sleeve that states "for soft metals." Larger bits are prone to be out of round and wobble alot.

When you're not sure exactly what size(s) of drill bit you'll need for your projects, this is surely the set to have! The quality is reasonable for the price, and the metal case is convenient to open up as shown in the picture, so you can compare bit sizes and remove/insert new ones as needed. This set has been invaluable to me lately.
