Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This comprehensive book goes way beyond the basics of drift-fishing techniques to include marine biology, ichthyology, meteorology, and physics as they apply to fish and fishing. Kusherets covers; species identification and anatomy; gear; set-ups; reading water; different drifting styles and techniques; understanding fish; spotting fish; troubleshooting; using the Internet; filleting your catch; extensive glossary; and more. The unique, yet down-to-earth advice in this book will bring more fish to your line.

From the Author
Many fishermen have told me that one of the first things they notice is that the book gets to the point of catching fish right away. Steelhead & Salmon Drift-Fishing Secrets is about getting fish on the hook and that’s all. Commercialism is overtly avoided so fishermen can concentrate on learning the hidden secrets of what it takes to get fish immediately and often. The concept of drift fishing is not difficult, though many guides would have fishermen believe otherwise; which is one of the reasons for the book. Anyone can do it. Look…all the tools are there for you, all you have to do is utilize them and I promise you’ll catch more fish than you can shake a stick at. If you need to build confidence take the book in the field with you and use it for references on how to read water and fish holds will reveal themselves to you; the illustrations of the color photographs make it extremely easy to know the difference between a tail-out, riffle, pool, slot, seam, and back-eddy. The section that shows how to spot fish is something fishermen will learn in seconds. Fishermen will find the reconnaissance section of the book advantageous since it shows how to anticipate the arrival of steelhead and salmon on any system anywhere that produces these fish. The list of items in the table of contents goes on and on but the applications of them are remarkably easy. Every person that has ever gone fishing with me or simply used my applications on his or her own has gotten fish; every single one of them. All fishermen can catch steelhead and salmon. I’ve heard the stories about the 10 percent of fishermen catching 90 percent of the fish. It doesn’t have to be true. The secrets that are horded by those 10 percent are in this book, and many secrets they don’t know are in the book as well. Have a good time catching fish but don’t forget to release some of them now and again.

By John Blair (Walnut Creek, California) - See all my reviews
This book is great for both the experienced angler and those new
to steelheading. Mr. Kusherets' writing style is inviting and the book is
well illustrated. From advice on equipment selection, to an illustrated
tutorial on reading holding water, to advanced tips and techniques, to new perspectives on the sport, this book covers it all - Nicely done!

5.0 out of 5 stars The world's most definitive strategies , November 1, 2004
By Branton Holmberg (Great Northwest) - See all my reviews
If you want to read the world's most definitive strategies on how to prepare for and consistently catch Steelhead and Salmon then you must by all means have "Steelhead and Salmon Drift Fishing Secrets" in your fishing books library. This book is simply without equal in describing everything you need to know in such a clear and concise "can't miss" fashion that you will in all likelihood carry it with you until it becomes second nature to you when you prepare to fish, while you fish, and in preparing your catch at the end of the day.
Timothy Kusherets has no equal in intellectual acuity, years of singularly devoted research, hands on experience and keen ability to effectively share what he has learned with other fishermen who constantly seek the challenge of Steelhead and Salmon fishing. Perhaps the most exciting aspect of all is that this is his first book and frankly I can't wait to see what he's going to give us next. This is truly a fine beginning of what I hope will be a very long and productive stream of invaluable fishing advice and information from Mr. Kusherets.
Dr. Branton K. Holmberg, a retired educator and businessman, Steelhead and Salmon fisherman and delighted (take it with me everywhere I fish) owner of "Steelhead and Salmon Drift Fishing Secrets"

4.0 out of 5 stars Overly articulate, but maybe that's a good thing!, December 2, 2005
By chili con cookie "logiko" (Sonoma, California) - See all my reviews
Steelhead & Salmon Drift-Fishing secrets provides a wealth of information about Steelhead and Salmon fishing and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking to get involved in this particular area of sport fishing. Of immense value are the photographs and tips on reading water, as well as the detailed anatomy of the various fish and tips on hitting the river at the right time when fish are biting.

While specific in certain areas, it is also very general in others which is inconsistent with the thesis of the book, i.e. Kushrets does not speak in depth about any particular region although he makes it clear he is from the Northwest U.S. One thing that may turn off the novice angler is for most of the book he speaks to the reader in a very authoritative "this is how you fish" style, more like a college professor than an enthusiastic weekend warrior. Explaining things in a simple, straight forward and friendly way is not Kushrets' writing style.

I would not go so far as to say that this is 'the definitive steelhead resource' it could have definitely contained more information; you can read it in an evening. Nonetheless the author knows his stuff and will impart you with some serious knowledge on how some of the best anglers are getting it done in the world of Steelheading.
