Almost every thing you need to get started or improve your game is here: knowing and reading your water, necessary equipment, terminal tackle, tying knots for drift bobbers and bait, the technique of drift fishing, how to work a drift boat, playing the fish, filleting and cooking the catch and much more.
The DVD puts Marc Davis,s words into action and shows dramatic under water footage and steelhead catching giving credibility to Davis.s expertise in the book.
Tight lines.

I found the DVD and book to be very informative. Marc's advice on different gear and how to be comfortable in different situations was spot on. I watch the DVD on occassion and continue to pick up on things helpful to my style of Steel Head fishing on the American River here in Calif. Scent is indeed the ticket to sucessful hook ups.

After reviewing this book, It is obvious that this is a book that should be in every steelhead fisherman's reference library. It is very understandable and is full of useful information. It provides a bounty of useful tips and tidbits for novices and experienced steelheaders alike. This comes from someone who has fished all of his life in the northwest, lives, eats and sleeps steelheading. It is obvious from the DVD included that his techniques are tried and true. Mr. Davis's reputation in the northwest as one of the premier fishermen qualifies him as a steelhead expert.

I've been fishing for the elusive Steelhead since 1992 and the first 10 agonizing years went by without landing one. And then one day it finally happened - only by chance, after telling my faithful companion, "OK, this is my last cast for the day." Had I learned some of the very basic principles Mr. Davis outlines in this book and DVD I'm certain I'd have been much more successful much sooner.

While that truly was "My Lucky Day" on another I met Marc and he offered to take me fishing. I'd never caught a winter steelhead because I'm disabled vet and I'm not that mobile these days. A vet himself, he took me to one of his secret spots (pictures in the book) and helped me navigate the rugged terrain. Then he personally schooled me in his techniques - and in that short 3 hours I caught and released 4 chrome metalheads using his low-rodding technique with his double-cross corkies and secret sauce (also, in the book).

I read lots of fishing books and this book/DVD is for both the new and the experienced Steelhead angler. It'll also benefit those who pursue other trout species, as well as salmon, in rivers. The hands-on "How To" DVD demonstrates many of his concepts and techniques. If you or your friends want to catch more Steelhead you need this book and DVD. With all it's action packed "catching" demonstrations armchair anglers will enjoy the DVD just as much.

Having fished for steelhead for a few years now, I found the information in this book useful and practical. I feel I can apply the inforamtion stream side immediately to improve my "catching", not fishing! The pictures and DVD are a nice how-to touch for people just starting out in the obssesion that is steelhead fishing. I would definitely recommend this book to any beginner, or average to above average steelhead fisherman

Thoroughly 'user friendly', "Steelhead Fishing Essentials" is enthusiastically and confidently recommended for anyone wanting to experience one of the greatest thrills a fisherman can experience -- successfully landing a steelhead salmon.

Save you money.

I was really looking for some essentials, just as the title says. I've fished NW steelhead for years, but have found that listening to or reading someone else's take on the fundamentals always enhances my success.

Unfortunately, there was nothing worthwhile here. Poorly written (embarrassingly so, at times), excessive focus on the author (please keep your fragile ego out of the book!), and a general lack of even minimally pertinent information made this unbearable after just a few pages, though I endured it to the end just to see if anything of value would poke its head up.

There are too many good books on the topic to waste your time and money on this book. Why do some people think they need to write a book??? Some things are best left undone.
