Not what I was looking for, but good scientific facts, April 18, 2000

This review is from: The Steelhead Trout (Paperback)
Book focuses on Steelhead of the Northwest, whereas my interest lies in Great Lakes steelhead, or at least references that could apply to both Ocean and Great Lakes fish. Introduction attempts to poetically describe fishery in the Northwest. Good chapter on Steelhead growth from egg, but again, relating to only salt-water bound fish. Later chapters describe fish activity in the ocean and in-depth history of fishing in the areas, along with references to particular Northwest rivers. Really does not get into fishng techniques until after 129 pages of the 170 page text plus fly index. On the good side, author does a thorough job of describing/picturing (b&w) different flies and baits. Best thing the book does is make reference to real completed scientific literature studies and conclusions. Overall, if I was a fly fisherman from the Northwest, it would have been a fair-plus to solid-good reading choice and would have probably gotten a 3 star grade. But basically, it just was not what I was looking for.
