5.0 out of 5 stars Steelheart Knows How to Rock
Their debut self-titled album, Steelheart, is one of my favorites. The ballad, I'll Never Let You Go, got them some air time on MTV and and number of "Best of the 80's Metal/Big Hair Bands." The rest of album is really pretty damn good. Love Ain't Easy, Like Never Before, Gimme Gimme and Down 'n' Dirty really rock. Can't Stop Me Lovin' You, Sheila and She's...

Can't Stop Me Lovin' You, Sheila and She's Gone are more ballad-type tunes and Everybody Loves Eileen is fun-filled rock 'n' roll. If you like White Lion, Firehouse or Slaughter, you should defintely like Steelheart.

Lead singer Mike Matijevic can really hit the high notes and belt out the songs. He's a more edgy version of White Lion's lead singer Mike Tramp. This first album is Steelheart's best and if you can find their second release "Tangled in Reins" it is worth buying, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Man, this guy has pipes!, November 10, 2004

I tend to like the thrash side of heavy metal but I appreciate genuine talent in any type of rock band. This guy has to be one of the best vocalists I have ever heard. I was in the army when this came out, so I wasn't really able to follow the rock scene. I heard a clip and listened to it on Napster, that voice in unreal. If you like this guy, check out TNT (Knights of the Thunder or Tell No Tales). Their singer is Tony Harnell and he is in the same league as this Steelheart guy. MTV puts the deep six on guys like this him and Tony, but morons like Chester Bennington and Fred Durst sell millions - there is no justice in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars, December 22, 2005
This review is from: Steelheart (Audio CD)
this was one of the bands that should have received the airplay -at the time of its release- that all of its related artists were,or had been, receiving . it was all so sudden....radio staions everywhere switched to that mess known as "grunge". Music would never again have style or intelligence or triumph or voice, or magnificence, or all of the above, it seemed. what was it with grunge , anyway....why couldn't that generation come up with anything different and yet ...good ? there are a few talented names/artists from that era, but most of that grunge time seemed like some kind of corporate joke on both the twenty somethings getting the record deals ( -probably made them think they had some kind of contribution to make to music-) as well as the radio audience deprieved now of music as we had always known it to be in this country, despite genre or time : intelligently inspired, assembled , and performed. that this album by steelheart kicked its foot through the door just as someone or something seemed to be closing out all of the good stuff in sound was perhaps all i could have hoped for at that time, though - as the stench coming from all of that grunge quickly dominated - no, the better word is "permeated" -the airwaves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two words "Totally Awesome", February 2, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

To bad the 80's style rock started to fade when these guys came on the scene but theres no one that compares to Mikes, or jeffs voice on this album. They are both the best lead vocals you can ever get for an 80's band. if you liked this album check out Jeff scott sotos other band (Eyes), or the Rock Star Movie Soundtrack. both Mike and Steve cover the Steel Dragon tunes which also rock. a must have album for true 80's rock fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars An extremely talented band who shines on this album, December 12, 2002
This review is from: Steelheart (Audio CD)
I remember when I bought the cassette single(yep, remember them?) for "Angel Eyes/I'll Never Let You Go", I knew this was an extremely talented band. Probably the best vocalist I've ever listened to, Mikey Steel (as he goes by now) helped this band get airplay on MTV, when they used to play music videos. "Angel Eyes" is the song that everyone knows them by, but "Everybody Loves Eileen", "Love Ain't Easy" & "She's Gone" are the real highlights of this album. A great talent, who unfortunately didn't last as long as they should have. But over a decade later, Mikey Steel re-emerged as one of the voalist for the soundtrack of the film "Rock Star". News of a new album is underway, so hopefully Steelheart lives again. But if ya wanna rock, buy this cd & rock away!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best album of the 90s', February 3, 2005
This review is from: Steelheart (Audio CD)
Because I love this band so much, I'm doing a review for all 3 of their albums (this is the first one, see Tangled In Reins and/or Wait for my other two reviews.)

Album Name: Steelheart
Running Time: 55:32
Band Members: Mike Matijevic- Lead Vocals
Chris Risola- Lead Guitar
Frank DiCostanzo- Rhythm Guitar
John Fowler- Drums
James Ward- Bass

You want an album thats better then Nirvana- Nevermind? Better then Skid Row- Slave To The Grind (only by a hair). Then you have it right here. Steelheart's self titled debut is a solid metal album from begining to end. With Mike's soaring voice and great song writing. Along with Chris Risola's blasting solos and James Ward's thumping bass and song writing skills. You have one of the greatest "hair" metal bands to come out before Nirvana crashed the party (damn them)!! Every song from begining to end is awesome!!

1. Love Ain't Easy -3:41- A solid begining track with a badass solo 5/5

2. Can't Stop Me From Loving You -5:06- It took me a couple of listens but soon I relieazed this song kicked ass. With some double peddling and a catchy chorus this song rocks! 4/5

3. Like Never Before -4:45- Honestly it is probably my least favorite track but its still pretty good. Worth a listen 3/5

4. I'll Never Let You Go -5:06- Ahh the song that brought them some fame. Going all the way to #14 of the charts. A catchy ballad with Mike screaming as high as he possibly can. Damn I thought his voice was gonna pop at the end of the song. 5/5

5. Everybody Loves Eileen -6:20- Great track. This one is a fan favorite for those who know Steelheart outside of "I'll Never Let You Go" 4.5/5

6. Sheila -7:40- A bluesy sleazy song thats pretty cool. The longset track on the CD but still good. OHHH SHEEEEEILLLLAAAAA 4/5

7. Gimme Gimme -5:23- Haha this song sure is cheesy but I love it. Awesome rocker about getting some action. 5/5

8. Rock'n Roll (I Just Wanna) -4:10- My 2nd favorite track on the CD. Probably the hardest track with kick ass lyrics and shredding solo, make sure you don't skip this track!! 5/5

9. She's Gone -6:30- Ahh another ballad but a bit softer then "I'll Never Let You Go" But still awesome. the solo is gut wrenching. 5/5

10. Down n'Dirty -6:42- Another cheesy but bad ass track. Probably the best guitar solo on the whole CD. 5/5

As you can see. This CD is a must have for any Hair Metal fan. And a last note. If you look on the back of the album booklet, You'll notice that it says Executive Producer: Bruce Dickenson!! Thats right the same Bruce Dickenson who sings for a band called IRON MAIDEN!! So at least I'm not the only one who saw some talent in these guys!

I heard these guys back in the early 90's and wow , and everyone who heard this CD said the same thing "who the hell is that."They had to be the biggest sleeper bands of the 80's .Unlike alot of the other bands from thier time this dude could sing his ass off.I havent had the oppertunity to hear them live but maybe one day .

5.0 out of 5 stars A diamond in the ruff, March 10, 2006
This review is from: Steelheart (Audio CD)
I wholeheartedly agree with the majority of reviews here. This CD simply rocks. The lead singer's voice was MADE for rock n' roll. It's a shame this band didn't get huge b/c this CD is simply superb. Like many, I first heard "Never Let You Go" on the radio and bought the cassette (back in the day) only to find that every other song on the album was as good as the first.

If this CD doesn't get your adrenaline for great hard rock going, nothing will. It's a keeper. Steelheart is/was a great band.

5.0 out of 5 stars You will love this cd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, August 11, 2003

If you buy this cd you will not be disappointed in anyway. trust me. i know people have different tastes of music but if u like good, hard rock, classic rock, power ballads, or even southern rock this is a cd for u! hey, i'm only 14 and i know good music. i got into Steelheart when i accidently downloaded the song (I'll never let u go) and i thought it was really great! then i found out that the lead singer(Mike Matijevic) was the voice of the lead singer in the movie Rock Star. let me tell u that this guy has an INCREADIBLE VOICE!!!!!!! like no other. then when i got this cd i was blown away. this is a band that wrties they're own songs and lyrics which i respect very much. because they are talent. these new bands and singers have someone else to do the composing for them and all they do is learn some words and sing them. there is not a bad song on here! to understand what i mean u have to listen to the songs all the way through and do it more than once. then u will like songs that u didnt used to like. well thanx for reading this and i hope u enjoy ur new cd, well i know u will enjoy it if u order it.now dont waste anymore time reading reviews and buy it now!!!!
