An excellent text on the heat treatment of steels,
By
This review is from: Steels: Heat Treatment and Processing Principles (#06936G) (Hardcover)
This book is an excellent book that describes the principals of the heat treatment of steels. It describes the various structures that are developed in steels and how they are varied by heat treatment. It also provides some specific data regarding heat treatments, but it is not a handbook that will soon become superceded by newer data; so while written in 1990, it is still relevant almost 20 years later. The book describes the hardenability of steels the various metallurgical factors, such as grain size and composition that determine the hardenability and how hardenability is measured. The evolution of isothermal and continuous cooling transformations are discussed. The book also covers the tempering of steel, surface modifications, the heat treatment of stainless steels as well as that of tool steels and cast irons in addition to that of low alloy steels and low and medium carbon steels. I recommend this book to students and practicing metallurgical engineers.
