Product Description

From the manufacturer

SteelSound 5H v2 is an optimized version of the original SteelSound 5H headset. The new headset features improved microphone quality, a longer microphone cord, bigger (and more comfortable) ear cushions, additional frame pressure and numerous other technical design improvements.

Features:

  • Custom-engineered soundscape designed specifically to enhance performance and immersion in gaming. This headset was developed and optimized for in-game sound frequencies, which makes in-game sounds like footsteps, alerts and gunfire especially clear. You will be able to hear and pinpoint the location of your opponents, often before they hear you.
  • Full-size headphones gently fit around the ears and reduce background noise, while providing maximum wearing comfort.
  • Bringing the headset with you has never been easier or safer. The SteelSound 5H v2 can be easily dismantled into 3 separate parts, which makes transportation a breeze. The pieces will easily fit into a bag or a carrying case.
  • SteelSound 5H v2 also features a pull-out microphone system. The retractable microphone is practically invisible when not in use. The microphone cord is covered in high quality transparent plastic to ensure long-lasting durability.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most comfortable gamer headset yet, January 4, 2007
This review is from: Steelsound 5H USB V2 By Steel Series (Personal Computers)
After doing much reading of personal reviews on forums I narrowed it down to this and the icemat headset. What put this one above the icemat's was it's retractable microphone and the fact that it had been redesigned to be sturdier.

I was also worried about them making my ears too hot, as I have experienced with other headsets, but to my surprise they do not get hot and they have super soft padding around the earphones and the headband. I can wear them for as long as I want without any discomfort.

The only thing I didn't like was the software that came with it. It made the bass/sound crackly for some reason. I found out that it works just fine on it's own without the software installed. So when you do get it, don't bother installing the "drivers" and software, it works perfect as is. Just plug and play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality all the way, January 5, 2007
This review is from: Steelsound 5H USB V2 By Steel Series (Personal Computers)
After looking around at headsets for about a year this is the first pair that really jumped out at me. It seemed like all the other headsets in my range (100) that I read about had some flaw like poor materials or tin sound, except this one. I didn't want the USB but there was a good rebate so I sprang and don't regret a thing. I've since bought the non USB version for my other system now that it's in stock. I can't comment on the USB as I don't use the card, but the headphones have been nothing but great. They're build as solid as their sound, they sit comfortably during my 8 hour game sessions and I use them for music with no complaints. They let a decent amount of outside noise in, which is good for me talking to the other person in the room but I imagine would be bad at a LAN or public place. I wear contacts but the few times I've had my glasses on they didn't bother me. The pads on these are so comfortable. Your ears can get a little warm after hours, but not enough to bother me and it is to be expected. The cord is a bit long but I'd rather have too much than too little, and it's not hard to deal with. Overall I can't really say anything bad about these headphones. I've been using this pair for 3 months and the other pair 2, no problems at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great headphones, August 4, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

My son used his hard earned money to buy these headphones. He is simply delighted at the quality of construction and sound, and that this item helped solve a noise problem with his other (non-USB) headphones.
